So here's a game for you: assume you just finished a gig, got your cables packed in you car when BOOM the stage blows up and burns your entire rig. You have a gig tomorrow and have $1000 to spend to buy everything but you cables. That's amp, guitar (any mods for your guitar), pedals, etc. what would you buy? Let's assume no ebay purchase would get there in time.:waiting

    I'll start.:)

    Guitar:
    Squier '51-$179 in stores
    -Mod-GFS Surf 90 (bridge)-$35

    Amp:
    Fender Blues Jr. NOS-$599

    Effect(s)
    EQD Dispatch Master-$160 used

Thats $963...May try to find a used VP Jr., but honestly that wouldn't be necessary. What would you buy?

Guitar: used squire affinity tele($120) plus used humbuckers of some sort ($60-100) $200
Amp: Used vox AC-15 or Night train 15 head and cab = $400
Delay: could make due with used vox delay lab = $150
Dirt: leaving $250 leaves me with a lot of options, I would buy a used EP booster ($100) and a few joyo or tone city overdrives ($110) plus a used volume pedal ($40)

So the lesson in this excerise? This is mostly my current rig minus the guitar... I could be happy with the squire tele (gasp), due to the fact that my PRS custom 22 would be difficult to replace with a limited budget.

If truly in that situation, you’d probably be limited to buying new, since finding used equipment would be hit or miss AND you’ve got a very short window to work with (less than 24 hours). Learning how to program a new piece of digital gear in that amount of time could be problematic.

I’m going for readily available at most stores, basic needs, and quick learning curve.

$180 Guitar: Squire Affinity Tele or Strat
$330 Amp: Fender Champion 100 Amp
$100 Overdrive: Boss BD2 Blues Driver
    $50 Distortion: Boss DS1
$80 Modulation: MXR Phase 90 or MXR152 Micro Flanger
$150 Delay: Boss DD7 or MXR Carbon Copy
    $13 Tuner: Snark SN1

    Total: $913.00
    Taxman @ 9% $ 82.17

    Grand Total $995.17

Few bucks left over if you also lost your picks.

Save $50 if you went with the Boss SD1 instead of the BD2.

    $300-$350 Tele
    $200 Fly Rig 5
    $450-$500 Amp

All used. Hopefully a G&L ASAT Tribute and an AC15c1.

    Bugera V22: $379
    Squier Affinity Telecaster: $179

    No mods, no pedals.

Sales tax in my area is 8.75%, so total cost comes out to $606.83.

    $299 - PRS SE (used)
    $8 - ^^^New strings
    $500ish - Fender Blues Deluxe/Vox AC 15
$69.99 - EHX Memory Toy (used)
    $66 - EHX Soul Food

    Total - $942.99
    Total after tax - $999.57

I priced the amp a little high to make sure I had the funds to cover. This is not my current rig, but I am familiar with it, and I believe I could get in the "neighborhood."

Modern Player HSS Strat - $300
    Peavey Valveking 20W Combo - $420
    Switch Doctor footswitch - $100
    Visual Sound / Truetone H2O V.3 - $179

    Total - $999

This would give me a two channel amp with footswitchable effects loop, reverb, and boost. Stick the H2O in the loop. Done.

You could swap out the Strat with the HSH version. It's the same price. I've seen both of those discounted to $299 before...

I had trouble finding stuff 'cos I'm in the mountains out of Sydney
I did an eBay search for BIN & 'nearest first' and came up with this

    Samick black Les Paul $280
    Laney VT15 valve combo $490
    Boss Hi-band Flanger (vintage) $139
    Hartman silicon Fuzz $90

    total $999

I'm sure I'd find heaps better value if I had a week!

Guitar: Squier j mascis jazzmaster (already had a lot of sonic overlap with other guitars I have but now I have an excuse to get it) - $350
Amp: Vox ac15 vr $250 (decent built in reverb and 2 overdrive channels)

Pedal: Bogner Harlow $200 (compressor and boost), Bogner burnley $200 (more distortion options)

If I can get any of them for cheaper, put the rest towards the best strap and tuner I can afford

A used Epi Dot or Sheraton (I'd quickly switch it to 50's wiring), a used Peavey Classic 30 and any decent, transparent compressor available... I guess that'll be right about a grand all in all. Hey, wait a minute, that's pretty much what I play most of the time anyways... :)

I'm a lefty, so I'd be somewhat screwed. But:

$379 Squire Classic Vibe Tele new

$400 AC15 or Classic 30 Used (Widely Available) Preferably AC-15 so you'd have Trem too and wouldn't have to get a TR-2 or similar tremolo. Honestly any decent tube amp under $400 whatever it takes

    $50 SD-1

$60 TU-3 used if possible or just get a snark if not

$120 OCD or Gain Changer new/used whatever if possible

Before taxman should be under $1,000 and I'm sure you could beg for a 10% off to offset that if buying all of that! That would get you through a lot of gigs. Although no proper set up/bone nut on guitar, no delay, and some other goodies would drive me crazy! If possible I'd get a Dispatch Master if in stock instead of the second drive pedal perhaps.

It would be difficult to get what I would want in under 24 hours. Basically, it would be whatever GC had in stock because the local stores are way overpriced, wanting $300+ for Squier Affinity series guitars, and understocked. There are no more good used gear stores like there were in the 80's and 90's since almost everybody sells online these days. All that remain are pawn shops that tend to treat even the cheapest guitars and amps as vintage rarities.

But, if I had more time to buy online and wait for shipping and scout out deals I'd go with something similar to my current rig...

GFS Xaviere XV-870 (or similar Strat-oid)
GFS Slick SL59 (or similar P90 for slide)
Used Peavey Bandit 65 or 75
Behringer Vintage Tube Monster (with new tube and mods)
    Behringer Vintage Time Machine
    Joyo Roll Boost
    Joyo British Sound

That should come in around $700 to $800.
