Not talking rock n roll, hard rock, blues rock, metal rock, indie rock, psychedelic rock or any other kind of rock, - just good old American rock music. The definition may be elusive, but I think the bands picked may define that. My vote is Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. There are many contenders and even more pretenders. What do you think?

I would have to go with The Eagles. But, The Band and The Allman Brothers Band are up there. The Band you can say are Canadian, but I would disagree.

So what differentiates “American rock” from all the other types you listed?

So I would consider Chuck Berry definitely rock n roll. Has that rock swing and chord patterns. Although Hotel California I would consider one of the great american rock songs, the band leans more towards country rock. Fleetwood Mac leans more towards pop/melodic rock. I would consider Kiss, Aerosmith definitely rock bands.

Mac is definitely out. As posted above, they are from England

Damn, I had no idea! Always just assumed they were because they met Nick's over here. Woops.
