Over the years I've collected and continue to collect way too many overdrive/fuzz/boost/treble boost pedals thinking I need access to so many tones.....Marshall in a Box, Tweed in a Box, Klones, Klons, Silicon, Germanium etc etc The reality is we will ultimately sound like ourselves from our fingers and settings without TOO much difference from most of these boxes. Has anyone experienced selling most of their dirt boxes in favor of just one or a few?

    Cheers!

I’d like a good fuzz face or tone bender circuit, but I don’t need it.

I’ve pared it down to only these:

If I had to cut out one, I could live without the Fat Sandwich, getting a similar enough tone by stacking the GR and PL.

Any artist can paint with a pencil and have a style, and ultimately they do indeed always kinda look like themselves but it's coolest to see one have multiple mediums and use multiple colors and all that. So I like to rotate things and see no problem with having multiples of any pedal. Also I have yet to find the answer!

I could get a lot done with just a Subdecay Flying Tomato.

Either a Big Muff or the Boss FZ-2. Fuzz pedals are the only dirt pedals I use, everything else comes from the amp and riding the guitar volume.

The only dirt pedal I need is the Mr. Sage Pickle Drive

It's two GGG Red Llamas in one box, made at at time when Way Huge did not make the Red Llama. Anything else is optional.

I like having the variety so I have not sold off much, and each one does have some cool nuances that I like, but if we’re talking “need” you could grab a dirt pedal or two randomly from the 30+ I own and I’d be able to get the job done with it.

My Boogie Mark V has all the sounds I love. I set channel 3 with just enough gain (11:30) for a singing lead tone and I'm good to go. In the past I've used a Boss GE-7 to boost it, but not now really.

In a way, I wish I'd never gotten so attached to the Boogie Mark series! I use the FX loop and a GigRig G2, so for me, it was a pretty confusing/complicated wiring set-up at first. I do envy people who get all their distorted tones from pedals. So much more straightforward!

Why just sand when there’s mud, dust, soil etc?

I had about 8 different dirt boxes including a rat type, 3 Ts and Ts type, 2 MIABs, a fuzz face, a Klon type. Out of these, I have kept 1 MIAB type (Boss JB2), 1 rat type (T Rex Mudhoney Danish Collection) and the Ts type (Boss Sd1w). The point is that I don’t get crazy anymore to achieve a specific/artist’s sound. I just want to be in the ballpark. It is what the OP said: in the end we sound almost the same way in every situation. our fingers and style of play remain the same.

Currently my board only has a Carcosa on it for dirt and I'm pleasantly surprised. The range of gain I get with just the volume of my guitar is impressive. If I could never buy another gain pedal I wouldn't cry.

Years of changing and moving pedals around boil down to this:
Timmy V2, VL Proctavia and big box JH Fuzzface. That's all the dirt I need.
