The song that would have been way bigger with better words?

Records that have rare fabulous music but they just didn't come up with the words that made it immortal, like Country Roads did, with West Virginia (they actually considered four-syllable Massachusettes instead -- disaster, without Shenandoah River and Blue Ridge Mountains).

I really think Green Day "Longview," even though it was huge, would have been multiple times bigger with a better subject.
But "In My Room," Beach Boys, is my pick as ultimate could-be-better-words record. What a tune -- but it's nothing but an ode to sitting around in your room.

I see no way to improve it, the lyrics hit the target square where they were aiming. For example:

...
Bite my lip and close my eyes
Take me away to paradise
I'm so damn bored, I'm going blind
And I smell like ****

...
I locked the door to my own cell
And I lost the key

...
My mother says to get a job
But she don't like the one she's got

...

And so on.

I mean, they're pretty good, but I think it could be done.

But as with anything, that doesn't mean it would've been bigger.

Star Star by The Rolling Stones. It couldn’t have gotten less airplay.
Almost Cut My Hair, CSN&Y. Lyrics always made me cringe.

There's a world where I can go and tell my secrets to
In my room, in my room
In this world I lock out all my worries and my fears
In my room, in my room

Do my dreaming and my scheming
Lie awake and pray
Do my crying and my sighing
Laugh at yesterday

Now it's dark and I'm alone
But I won't be afraid
In my room, in my room
Genius. And it is not about romance.

The smell of your shoes is like a rose garden for your feet.
When I take you out to dinner you say
" I'll just have some meat".

From the song Like a Wart. I wrote that, it couldn't get any better.

Genuis indeed. A perfect example of Brian Wilson's brilliance. Couldn't possibly make this song better.....

I think those lyrics are perfect.
