Slight detour, but I’m interested in speaker recommendations for a Valclone 1624T. Leon suggested a Celestion G12H30W would be a good option and based on that, it is the preferred option. But I thought I would see if there are some alternative opinions and experiences with other speakers
I have a ‘76 black back celestion G12M with the 55hz (bass cone) in my 1624T clone. Works great in the smaller cab to reinforce the bass. My clone came with a Rolla alnico 12”. I promptly blew it... pedals, playing loud. BUT, I had that celestion laying around and it actually comes near the tone of the Rolla. Fantastic harmonics out of it.

I have a Valclone 1624T as well and have an Eminence GB128 in mine that sounds really good. I've never tried the G12H in that amp but, I've had them in other amps with good results.

Good to hear that you like what you heard. The amps yield some terrific sounds to be sure.

The concern/issue you raise regarding the price matching is a reality every retailer is faced with - no matter what the product is: amps, guitars, strings, accessories, etc. I'm not sure what the answer is for the brick and mortar shops. I would prefer purchasing from a local shop - few that there are now in my area - but they don't stock much of what I'm interested in. Which means I cannot try out the product. And of course there is the price discrepancy thing. It's difficult to justify paying 15-23% more (not even considering the state tax thing) when you can order on-line and have the product delivered to your door. The convenience of shopping on-line and having such a wide assortment of product to select from is something the local shops have to address if they are to remain in business.
Not only schools us in Supro amps, but Econ 101, as well! Love it!

I have a late 60's Big Star 2x12. Looks like a cross between an easy bake oven and a 50's car, I freaking love it. Sounds great with this awesome greasy overdrive and reverb that can be super dank. The reverb knob is somehow ganged onto the reverb channel volume - so turning up the reverb gets you more mids, more overdrive. Just more. This is factory too, not a mod. Super cool.

Here it is with my Novo ridin' high.

Wowza! Guessing this thing sounds sick, yes? How 'bout some sound samples?

I’ve got an amp and a few pedals on the chopping block in hopes of finding a smaller grab and go amp. I’m starting a new musical project and currently don’t have a place to store my amps so i’m stuck lugging my Supro Jupiter, big pedalboard and at least one guitar up and down 3 flights of stairs a couple nights a week(I know what you’re gonna say-start hittin’ the weights and quit complaining). Looking to get something that will at least cut the load down to one trip to the car at a time.

I’m looking at the Keely, Comet, and BMr. All of them have qualities I really like. The Keely is kinda taking the lead because of the price and the standard tube availability(also being able to swap in 6L6’s for a different flavor is a cool feature). But the Black Magick’s reverb and Trem(and killer tone) make it a bit more portable since I could leave the pedal board at home for certain practices and rehearsals. The Comet’s small foot print, low weight and lower wattage make it appealing.

Sorry for the long post but if anyone has any thoughts on these I would appreciate it. I know they’d all be a great choice and i’d Probably own all 3 if that was an option.

I bought a Supro1605R 5 watt 1x8" combo and it's pretty much the ultimate small amp for me. It's actually got some great clean tones in there and obviously breaks up so well. And the reverb is super lush! I don't even look at small combos anymore cause I doubt anything could beat it for me.

My next amp will probably be a Supro. I’m strictly an at home player so don’t need anything crazy loud. I’ve been looking at the Comet as well as the 1605R. The 8in in the 1605R worries me. What do you guys think? Or maybe another Supro I missed?

For the record, I have a Princeton Reverb Reissue that I love. It’s seems to be the perfect size and wattage for me. The Comet on paper seems close so I’m leaning towards it as I just want the Supro sound in a combo similar to a Princeton.

I'd be interested to hear that 8" Supro speaker myself - firsthand.
According to these reviews the 1605R and 1606 sounds like a great amp:
