THE TORINO RED stratocaster

    my buddy scored an awesome deal on a torino red Clapton strat,as ugly as we find it w/ it white pick guard it was a good deal
    what sorta pick guard would lift this guitar from ugly to swan..
    anybody got pics or their torino red strats w/ replacement pick guards??

    For me a red Strat needs a mint green guard, partchment, or cream trim and a rosewood fretboard. That's how I outfit all my Fiesta Red ones and they look great.

    I had an '88 torino red Am. Std. that I put a black pearl guard on. At first I thought it looked great but I grew tired of it real fast.

    Mint green will dress it up but not make it gaudy.

    I just don't get the mint green thing...I think it looks hideous. I am obviously in the minority though. I have a built-in anti-green gene I think. Can we see a pic of this Clapton Strat?

    I got a white MOP from Warmoth for a CAR Strat, recently...good quality, price and service. Parchment is also cool. But, there is no accounting for taste.

    Depends on how you want it to look. Silver/chrome to match the hardware, or else change the hardware to another color and match it on the pickguard.

    Or else, just do a different shade of red. That's a nice clean look. I'd go with metal flake, tortoiseshell, or a pattern of some kind, but whatever floats your boat.

    I always thought the stock torino red Clapton is a nice classic look (I guess I can call the '80s classic, huh?). 2 things about the Clapton that bothers me - the close 12th fret dot spacing (not right for something based on a '50s Strat) and the small V-neck.

    Soak the white guard in coffee/tea for a couple of days. Just enough to take the bright white edge off it.
