No. It's in the fur vest . Not many know this , but dead animals are often the lost and overlooked key to good tone.

That layer of tanned skin and fur resting between the body of the guitar and the guitar player is magic stuff.

I even like recorded version better - more woman-y. In fact, I remember exactly where I was when I first heard "Sunshine"....bastard shattered my surf guitar world.

All I remember thinking when I first heard that song was what kind of amp makes that sound. And.... it's in the hands, and.... I was a kid

Really? Do you really think his tone would be the same if he was plugged into some little solid state practice amp? Just askin'.

Do you sound the same through different amps? Your fingers make your amp sound like the same output tubes and the same speakers no matter what you plug in to? Just askin'.

Never believed that in the hands crap. A great SG, a clear signal path between the guitar (2 pedals at best) and a plexi. Today we have a guitar played thru several massive pedal boards into boteek amps and wonder why we can't have that simplistic great tone.

You can get close with some of the reissues and clones, but my '68 plexi always causes jaw distension when people hear it through my stack of Scumbacks.:Devil

    3 reasons and a comment........

1-Man they played stuff s-l-o-w back then....

2.Well no wonder they had better tone back then, they had more time to find a spot and play the notes..

3.Take any fretting out SG and run it through a loud amp...

Comment/question- How long had Ginger been playing drums at this point in time??

It can't be in the hands folks, Clapton has played this tune over and over on a whole bunch of different gear, employing strats, fender amps ect... and he just does not have it, as a matter of fact clapton has lost it... and sounds terrible.

That dog don't hunt anymore, it's time to go back get the SG's, 335's, Marshalls and crank those tunes.

Nothing like an old Plexi cranked w/ PAF's!:BEER

Worst thing that happened to Marshall was the Attenuator.

    Marshalls need to breathe.

A few people here hit the nail on the head. Clapton has sounded like ass (thin, empty, and ear splitting) since he quit playing Gibsons into Marshalls!!! :mob

How many of you will flame me? Well before you do, just think about he would sound like if he switched back, especially for the Cream reunion... Didn't sound very authentic to me..

Everybody in this thread is dead wrong!
What gave E.C. his tone was the ruler he used to play 'air' guitar (well, 'ruler' guitar) at school. Apparently the kind of plastic they used then was very conducive to good tone, and all those British guys bought them from the same shop. I'm looking into that and I promise that within the next few months your little world will be rocked. I found a supplier of NOS rulers that I think I'll be selling for 1,000 each. Small price for that tone, me thinks. I'm waiting for the report from my accountants, though.
