How do I know? Besides the mounted dashboard video camera and somewhat tinted windows? He told me.

He was in front of my house when I left to pick the kids up from school and there when we returned. He saw me look in his direction more than once, then pulled in front of my driveway, rolled down his window, flashed an ID and introduced himself as a PI.

Said he was doing work for an insurance company and that he would be in the area for a few days.

Now, my wife is involved in a workers comp case with her former employer and has an attorney.

If the dude is investigating her, why would he more-or-less tell me? By disclosing who he is, is he trying to suggest he's watching someone else? My wife has nothing to hide. I don't want those cameras taping my kids.

    Nice car, though.

Keep the kids in the house. Don't think there is any expectation of privacy if they are in the front yard

Call the cops and report the guy doing deals with hoodlums on your block. Tell them you suspect hardcore drugs/guns being sold. Give them the description of the guy, car, lic ate number and then tell them he's been there for a few days

I can guarantee you that if he's a wannabe PI, he'll have a piece with him.

Also, tell the cops you want to remain anonymous.

I thought this was going to be about the number pi. Maybe you lived at address 314 and someone painted a decimal and extended it out a few digits for good measure.

People are allowed to report what they consider to be "suspicious activity" in their neighborhood without having to determine if any laws have been broken.

I can't imagine someone sitting around parked in a neighborhood with (or without) a dashcam for "a few days" and not drawing the neighborhood's attention (including whoever he might be watching), or being reported to the cops. He would be used to it by now.

Yeah, that's a great idea. He should just file a false police report while he's at it too. :facepalm

A phase inverter would definitely be an odd item to find in front of one's house.

This is extremely bad advice. For starters, it's illegal to make false reports to the police.

Also, many PI's are former cops or have close ties to the police. There's a good chance this would not work out well for you.

(BTW, I worked closely with PI's when I was practicing criminal defense.)

There used to be a PI that used to come to the Court House and bring this mousey looking little File Clerk a free cheap lunch once or twice a week...we figure she was giving him little tidbits of info...

He was snockered a good deal of the time...former Beat Cop, bad divorce etc.
One day he showed up wearing an Aloha Shirt and one of our guys dubbed him 'Magnum DUI'

Sounds like a really ****** PI, if I had hired him, I would want my money back.
