With the appearance of the Egnater Rebel and the Blackheart amps, I don't think this asian made bogner is the bargain it used to be when it first came out.

Even at 1399.99 the Alchemist is still a hell of an amp in its class.

Can't comment on the Egnaters but the Blackhearts aren't that great and don't come even close to what an Alchemist can do. Blackhearts still sound and feel like cheaps amps IMO.

Oh and the Egnaters seem to have a lot more models to offer in different price ranges while the Alchemist is still just one amp type in just different power, speaker, and cab configurations.

What other amp is there that can do what the Alchemist does at the same price or less brand new?

For that price, the Egnater Tourmaster is even a better deal, and a WAY better sounding, and more versatile amp

I know it's a horse of a different color, but at that price, I am going for something like a Budda SD 18!

WOW I am glad I bought mine last week locally. But I also get a nice discount at the store anyways. :)

Once the Egnater Renegade 50 comes out at a street price of $1199 Bogner will not sell another Alchemist!

Just my opinion of course!!

The Egnater Renegade is noisy on the overdrive channels. Or I would have waited for one.

I really like what Egnater is doing with their amps, but just watch the videos on the renegade and the Rebel 30 on both occasions on the overdrive channel demos, the player hits a note or chord and then Bruce turns the amp up, and there is never a pause on note playing or chording until the demo is over. I was concerned about that when I saw the first video's and when the guy playing the 4-10 model Renegade switched to overdrive it was all kinds of buzzy. I hope that gets fixed before the amp comes out because if it is that noisy, it will be a big disappointment to whomever buys it.

All that said, I still like his ideas and I hope he sorts out that buzzing problem before production occurs.

Now I ain't above sending the Alchemist back if it don't work like I want it to. So what I have to pay shipping. it is a 2 hour round trip to CG to try it out, and an hour to demo the amp, and at my salary that would be about a hundred bucks worth of time. I know it won't be a hundred to ship it back to zZounds.

I don't think you are correct, there is a marked difference in the tone of the respective amps, and tone being what it is, subjective to personal taste more than anything, there will always be folks who prefer the Alchemist over Egnaters offerings, and visa versa. Both amps are real good ideas. And both amps will have a following.

If you are looking at the 1x12 combo, you may want to compare the new Fender VM Deluxe as well.

That's just silly. You can pick up used Maz 38s all day long for less than that.

What a joke.

I don't buy used gear ever unless I can spend some time with it in my town or nearby, besides I wanted to try the Alchemist.

The Maz 38 is a nice looking unit, but no channel switching, or if so, only one set of tone controls, I want an amp I don't need pedals with, I already have an amp that needs pedals for different degrees of gain, so I wanted one I could eliminate the need for carrying a pedal board. Nothing silly about that. I have the pedals but I want something I can take out and set up with just the amp pedal which fits inside the combo and a guitar cord.

Heard the Renegade at NAMM and it sounded fantastic. Look forward to getting the head and a 2x12" cabinet. Played the Alchemist and I don't get it. The Chinese made Egnater amps look and sound like a real Egnater. The Alchemist sounds like a Line 6 amp with a Bogner name. No comparison!

I sent the Alchemist back already. One day at the house was all I needed, It sounded nice at ear killing volumes, but at practice at home volumes it was purely mediocre, of course it is not made for that but I did not know that so I pulled the trigger on line, and it cost me 80 bucks to ship it back. Oh well. I will look at the Renegade when it gets to GC and also the Rebel 30 combo. Until then, I am just waiting for my refund.

The Renegade head is going for $1000.00 - 50 watts - two real channels, tube mix on EACH channel - 2 x EL34s and 2 x 6L6s - 10w/50w switch per channel and reverb. Game over!
