Is there an era of SGs that are noticeably thicker than others?

I just saw a band play with what looked like an SG Deluxe or Custom or something. It had gold hardware but only had 2 hums, regular control layout, and old vintage cream white finish. The interesting thing is that the body of the SG looked particularly thicker than my 2005 standard.

Anybody have any insight on thicker SG models?

Are you sure it just didn't look thicker because it's a lighter color?

You know, kind of like how wearing dark clothing is supposed to have a slimming effect.

Yea, I don't know. I never measured, but my Standard appears to be thicker than my Supreme. The horns are definitely different.

But the thickest body SG I ever seen isn't a Gibson. Look to ESP Vipers. Slightly different, but O-SO nice.

The Diablo is the thickest SG, bar none.

hmm,, possibly the white might have something to do with it... but my reference point was the neck joint to the body, it just looked really beefy, almost like an LP.

But who knows, maybe it was just a lighting thing.

I just read somewhere that anecdotally, someone said that they thought the SG Les Pauls had slightly thicker body. Does anyone know this for sure? The reason I'm asking is because I think I got the GAS bug again.. a thicker SG would be really interesting to me, both tone wise and for feel.

Yeah, I've read about the Diablos - they have the carved tops, yeah? Are they maple caps or just carved mahogany all the way through?

Warmoth makes SG bodies as thick as strats..
That works out for those who want to install a floyd rose...

You should look at Guild S-100's

    Thicker and less "toy" feeling.

I think you'd have to have a custom one made.

Bump an old thread. Did Gibson release an SG with thicker body version?
