If the punk was seriously trying to sell $30 warranties for $5 apiece odds, ends, accessories,
somebody did a p@ss poor job vetting the hires in that store.

And if he genuinely thought the only guitar a female could possibly want, someone
should a) probably be grateful that, at least, he didn't hand her a Hello Kitty Strat, merely
a Pepto Bismol pink one; and, b) find the nearest woodshed and take him there posthaste.

Nothing because they're usually in the corner talking to each other.

My experience has been they will say anything (including making something up) in an effort to close the sale.
Unfortunately for them, as soon as they set off the BS-Detector, I walk.

    YMMV.

Long ago I asked to try out a used wah pedal at GC. The sales guy hooked me up and left. A few minutes later he came back and asked me how I liked it. I said it was ok and he commented "You know the thing I like about wah pedals is how much they sound like an echoplex". He wasn't kidding. I handed him the guitar I was using and left. He had the most perplexed look on his face as I walked away.

I haven't bought anything from GC since my Taylor 314ce four years ago. Talked to the manager, got it for $1500.00 out the door.

It 100% depends on the store. The 3 main guys I know at my local GC are extremely knowledgable and professional. I text/email every trade/purchase scenario I'm interested in prior to walking in and it's always agreed to and written up at a good price before I walk in the store. Fast/easy/painless and as good a retail transaction as anywhere I've shopped for anything.

"Any strings picks or cables today?"
    No.

"no strings, in case you bust one?"
    I don't break strings anymore.

"aw man it'd really brighten up your tone"
I like my dead sounding strings.

I think you genuinely need to realise that was humour, scripted and shot for humour, not for realz.
Srsly, you need to work on your mad humour detection skillz.

Actually not very funny. I don't frequent GC but have bought stuff there. Most important was my '07 American Deluxe Strat. The Strat I had been searching for my entire life. I had always played a '79 Gibson "The Paul" as my #1. Great guitar, and I still play it with SD Antiquities installed. But I never really grooved with the 24" scale because I have big hands and long arms. I had always longed for a Strat I could love but never found one. Strats always frustrated me because of the boominess of the lightweight alder body. No tight mids. Plus the noisy single coils and reputation for going out of tune. I did some research and decided I should look at one with an ash body, C-neck, modern noiseless pickups, and the locking tuners. I also knew I would completely block the vibrato bar so that didn't matter. I went to the GC in Monmouth County NJ and talked to a guy who pulled a guitar off the rack that I played for 10 minutes and I knew was perfect. I bought it on the spot. Couldn't be happier with the sales guy who knew exactly what I wanted and put it right in my hands.

Wow dude, you are such a badass.

If the guy didn't say this, we're you buying the wah pedal?

Same here. The GC in my town has always had very knowledgeable staff. Not pushy in any way and very helpful. Go figure.
