I'm in Vegas watching my boy's baseball this weekend. The games will be in the morning, so I will have the afternoons/ nights free. Any thoughts on things to do/eat in the Vegas area with me and my 14 year old? We like all sorts of exotic food, and some desert sights and non strenuous hiking( need to save the BB star's legs) would also be appealing to Minnesotans Escaping the winter.

    TIA

Doing the Hoover Dam tour is really cool. I haven't been there in years but when I went on the tour they took us to the Liberace museum (which was in a strip mall) Took us by celebrity homes like Red Foxx's and Wayne Newtons then out to the Hoover Dam and back. It was a good time.

If you're a foodie, one of the world's finest restaurants is in Las Vegas, in my opinion. Joël Robuchon, in the MGM Grand. Out of this world fantastic...and priced accordingly.

    Hoover Dam is great.

Death Valley is one of the most amazing places I've ever been - driving over to Badwater for sunset would be a very cool thing to do. About 4 hrs. of driving in all, but it's a pretty drive.

Red Rock Canyon is really close if you like to hike

Lake Havasu City is about ~2 hours away (I've always had a great time there)

Valley of Fire State Park is also a nice place to visit, short drive from Vegas. Lots of nice hikes.

The Neon Museum is pretty wild. Plus one for Red Rocks.

Already spending too much on this trip, so that place is a no go. I was thinking more of good, cheap food, whether it be Mexican, Asian, or whatever. Unless they are absolutely amazing, hamburgers aren't of much interest, or things like ribs. I make better at home.

I have not done this in a while, but there use to be a Las Vegas Sign Museum. It was the last resting place for all the classic neon signs on the strip. If you want an expensive adventure ride the Stratosphere thrill rides in the sky.

It is one of if not the best food cities in America. Every great chef in the country seems to have an outpost there. You have to let go of your wallet a little bit, but $200 per person goes a lot further at dinner than at a blackjack table, and you have an experience to remember.

Another thing we found a lot of value in was renting a poolside cabana for the day. It's expensive for a couple but quite reasonable if you get a few couples to chip in.
