I have a Clark Pro ("Penrose"). I love it and am keeping it.

But, since I can, I thought I might buy another.

It's between the Tyger (ie Tweed Bandmaster) or the Piedmont (Bassman).

Give me your views. Wine-tasting tone comments appreciated...!

Is it for guitar or harp? I find that a bandmaster 3x10 sounds cleaner and louder than a pro 1x15 setup even though the circuits are so similar. Jr. Watson told me that a bassman was too bright so I don't play mine anymore......fred

Mostly for harp. I noodle on the guitar but I gig on the harp.

Go the Tyger .. a Bassman is just too damn LOUD! You'd never get a Bassman into the sweet spot at a gig so you'd never really get to hear it do its thing.

I was going to get the attenuator for either amp.

Go with the Piedmont with the Factory atenuator, and you can get a great tone at any volume,I had one and loved it with the Atennuator!
The Tygr would do the same just get it with the Atennuator.

Aren't a Penrose and a Tyger basically the same amp with different speaker configurations? Maybe a Piedmont would give you more variety. The cleans are very 3D on that tweed Bassman circuit. Yumm!

    Hey Fred,

I find with my technique and a hairy old CR mic, I can make most any Fender Tweed era circuit bark like a dog. I just want something a bee's dick louder than the Pro. I figure the Bandmaster would sound like a slightly louder Super - and my Super is a nasty, greasey amp...

All jokes aside, I only want one larger amp with tens, the choice being the Bandmaster or Bassman. What I want is some wine tasting notes characterising the tonal differences. If there aren't any then I guess it gets down to the question of whether I want to lug a heavy amp or a heavier amp...

So, how would you describe the nose, palette, bouquet and finish?

The Piedmont it is, with 10A100's, the non-ribbed mid 50s Jensen copies...
