Thinking about going from a Vox AC30TBX to a Marshall HW Series?

    Hey guys,

I purchased a Vox AC30TBX awhile ago, as my first major amp purchase. However the more and more i play, the more i am leaning towards (or i think im leaning towards) an amp which has more natural distortion than the Vox.

Can any enlightened players out there point out the big differences between thw two amps?

Im going to go play some this weekend, but i have been reading a fair bit, and checking out the setups that my favourite players use. Ie John Frusciante, Mike McCready, SrV, Jimi. And obviously they all use Marshalls.

    Thanks in advance,

Marshall 2061x ...great amp amigo! 20 loud watts ...great tone!
With channels bridged it sounds alot like my 1972 1986 50w head tone without the wall of sound bear hug.
    I like to A/B mine with a 1970 SFDR.

The 2061x isn't a crazy distorted amp, even when cranked - think AC/DC. From what I hear, the 1974x has more gain on tap. I love the 2061, don't get me wrong, but just throwing that out there...

yeah, im not after crazy distortion. just that natural overdrive kind of tones that marshalls(?) seem to give out. ac/dc is almost what im after....

if you have listened to rhcp's live in hyde park - with john's opening intro - id be after that kind of sound out of my amp....

Think Mick Taylor with the Stones...
The 2061x does alot more than ACDC...very round and hairy to nice and clean with the guitar vol.
...seems to have more available clean headroom than the 1974x...with a rounder tone and versatility inMO.

I played a 1959HW and it was awesome. If I had not gone down the custom board route on my 2203X, I would have tried this amp.

I also had the Voc AC-30TBX, really nice amp,
I sold it to recover my cash (plus about 200% profit mind you...) after gigging with it once, only beacause I love my 50w plexi so much.

I have not found a better rock amp to date although I really loved the 30,
there just wasnt enough oomph for me to be satisfied.
Try one, youre gonna love it.

I didn't mean to say that it only does ACDC, obviously. Just that it has about that much dirt on tap when cranked.

I liked the VOC AC-15 CC quite a bit.

Howevcer, I returned it and just got a 1974X.

Sounds amazing but it has to be on 10 to get the big OD sound.

    !!!!!Loud bugger!!!!!!!

I'll be at the PJ show tomorrow night!!!!
