Thorell Guitars - can anyone get an email response from them, or know prices?

I've emailed Thorell Guitars through their website twice now to inquire about prices on their Frank Vignola signature model:

http://www.thorellguitars.com/

The first time was a few months ago and I never received a response. The second was a few days ago, and still nothing. I realize the second could be due to the Holiday Season. Has anyone been able to get in touch with Thorell, or can anyone tell me how much the Frank Vignola model is? Any help is appreciated!

Hello, and sorry for not responding to your email, I will have to contact my webmaster and have him look in to why it didn't come through. Feel free to email or call me direct at [email protected] or 435-713-9507. All my guitars are built custom and by hand, so the prices vary quite a lot from instrument to instrument (which is why I don't have the price listed on my website). However the studio model sells for around $6300.
thanks
Ryan

I ordered mine through Destroy All Guitars. Cliff put me in touch with Ryan and he was super responsive and friendly. This is a fabulous, innovative guitar.

I love this site! Thanks for responding, Mr. Thorell. Your guitars are beautiful. I figured after the 2nd request that you were not receiving my emails, no problem at all. I saw Mr. Vignola play in St. Louis a few years ago when he was still playing the Benedetto and he sounded fantastic. Given that he prefers your guitars, I can only imagine how good they must sound in person.

TDJMB - thanks for chiming in! Do you have any photos or sound clips you can post? I would love to see your guitar!

Did you check the Destroy All Guitars website? Mine doesn't have quite the dramatic grain on the sides but those photos give a good idea. It is a gorgeous guitar and I love being able to look through the side soundhole into the innards. No sound clips yet - I'm still trying to find the right strings. I emailed FV and he suggested LaBellas and those'll go on next. Also, I really like the pickup.

Beautiful, thanks for sharing! I'm assuming that is the FV "Premier" model, and not the "Studio"? It's breathtaking!

I had not checked the DAG website, but will do so now. Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Beautiful! I would love to try the Wysteria model guitar listed on Destroy All Guitars website. Incredible and tasteful as well!

Hello all, I just had to add my 2 cents on the Vignola model. Ryan made a run of 10 Vignola guitars called the Limited Edition. I am very fortunate to have #1 of the 10. I received it last year around Christmas, what a present. Ryan and I go back a ways. I first met him at a Festival in Park City, Utah. Walkin around lookin at the normal stuff like pottery, art work, the normal stuff in an outside festival and there it was a guitar booth with Ryan's awesome instruments. I thought I was seeing things so I asked if I could play one and he didn't even hesitate, which one he said, all of them. I played and played, a little ragtime on the flat tops, some solo jazz stuff on the archtops. He asked if I wouldn't mind coming back to play in his booth, heck yeah. Well needless to say I feel in love with his guitars. The tonal characteristics of each one was so unique. I own 4 of his guitars and am ordering another. Back to the Vignola model. I introduced Frank to Ryan and they just hit it off. At the time Frank was looking for a guitar to endorse so the timing was perfect. By this time I had the Gianina model which is an archtop nylon string guitar and I had the Legato model which is my main guitar. I had known Frank for a while and I went to NY for some lessons from a master and he played the Legato model and loved it. After their introduction Ryan made Frank the FV model and let's just say he doesn't play his Benedetto (I think he sold it). Now he only plays the Thorell guitar. I've had mine for a year now and she is really opening up, though she was awesome when I first got her, she just gets better and better. Easy to play, a very unique voice, extremely comfortable sitting or standing, it just makes you want to play forever and very hard to set down. Just an A++++ in every way and the real treat is dealing directly with Ryan. We have become good friends over the past 5 years, he was kind enough to put me as an artist on his site (Bill Inverso). I don't have cd's and I'm no one special I just love to play and I play more when the Thorell is in my hands. His guitars are affordable and there isn't another instrument that can touch it, I've played them all. I was always looking for the perfect guitar, tone, feel, playability, just like the rest of you out there. Problem is every guitar he makes is the perfect guitar. Find the model you want, order it and just sit back and play...get your teeth whitened because you'll be smiling a lot...

Great info - thanks for posting. Can you give details on differences between the Premier and the Limited Edition? And maybe a picture or two?

There are two models available: the FV premier and the FV studio. Here is a link to some good pics and ordering information for the two different models:
http://destroyallguitars.com/thorell

Also Cliff (the man behind destroyallguitars) has a build slot with me for the fv studio that is comming up soon, that I believe is still available (he doesn't usually post these until they are finished, but I am sure you could call and put a deposit on it). You would have to call and ask him about that. This would be a really good opportunity to get one quickly. You can call him at 919-552-3047

I got mine that way. I happened to check Cliff's page (very bad for the wallet), saw the FV Premier, flipped out, inquired, and found out one was just about ready to go. Instant gratification is a wonderful thing.

Vintage Vibe D'Armond reproduction. I really like it.

Cool. I'll have to check into those. At first I thought it might have been a Charlie Christian type repro with that bar on it.

Is it just like the old single coils or is it hum cancelling? I have old 50's D'Armond Guitar Mic pickups on a couple of my archtops and love the tone, but would love a humbucker with similar tone (if that's possible)...

thanks.

I just saw my photos posted on www.thorellfamily.com. It's fine except I'm horrified by the string wraps on the headstock. It was the first time I strung up a slotted headstock and I made a mess of it. I've since gotten instructions from Ryan.
