BIG email from Senior Thorn today. WOW. I'm so thrilled!!!

For those who aren't aware, short story, I wanted a Thorn Deluxe that had the elements of modern building I wanted (DC, Chambered, TRem, controls like I want, 25" scale, etc) but with a tribute nod of the hat to the Peter Green LP. So it'll have the WCR Moore/Green set, out of phase, faded lemondrop burst, braz board, 3A maple top with mineral streaks, etc.

Pretty stoked. She's ready for paint.

Lots more pics on the link in my sig.

That's fantastic, Mike. I was seriously thinking of making Thorn #198 a Lemondrop flame because I love the look on Joe Bonamassa's Les Paul. Now I can see how it looks on a Thorn ahead of time!

Cool thing about that top. I told ron pick one and tell me later.

We took 3 or 4 3A easterns out, and tapped em all. This one by leaps and bounds had the best tap tone. That's all I cared about!

What's that block of wood situated just above the neck mortice on the body (in your sig. photos)? Do they have some kind of unique way of mounting the neck?

I'm not a big fan of fancy tops, Mike - but if I have to have one those fiddleback fine curls are the best.
Nice piece, Mike. I'd be stoked too!

    Best, Pete.

That's how Ron mounts the body for the routing procedure. It's cut off later. As it is now.

Thanks Pete. Ron said the top really is 3D, dissappearrs and reappears. The figure was never in my mind really. I wanted subtlty. THe flame sorta 'popped' by accident. I'm more excited by the groovy mineral streaks and such that many of the 50's LPs had. Biggest deal, was we wanted Eastern Maple like the old gibby's, and it had the best tap tone in the shop. I was there when we were sorting them.

I've only played one Thorn, but it was an incredible instrument. Yours will no doubt be amazing :)
