I have an Elitist LP Standard coming my way and was wondering what people thought about the stock pickups.

Did you keep them? Did you swap them? If so, to what?

Was there anything else you thought needed upgrading?

    Thanks!:munch

They are just Gibson 498T and 490R, the way I understand it. Hot alnico 5 bridge and smooth alnico 2 neck. Not great balance between them, but lots of people like them. I had an Elitist and thought they sounded pretty good -- I would say more hard rock in the bridge than vintage, but yeah, they're solid pickups. Also had them in an LP Studio with ebony neck -- sounded even better in that guitar.

They won't satisfy those who want a low wind, Tele sound out of a LP. But for full on LP rock, they get the job done IMO.

Elitists are pretty darn good the way they come. If you like the 'tweener size neck -- bigger than slim taper but smaller than 50s -- you will probably be quite happy.
