Three Position Strat

Are there any Fenders (Current or Otherwise) that

(1) Have three pickups but only three pickup settings (positions)? I would never use positions 2 and 4.

or

(2) Come stock with only two pickups (bridge and neck)?

I don't know if they still do, but MIA reissues used to come with both 3 and 5 way switches so you can have it exactly like vintage with the 3 way or have the 5 way installed for the in between positions. As for 2 pickup strats, i've never seen any except of course 2 humbucker versions, but not 2 single coils.

essentially a Richie blackmore strat, The middle pickup is a dummy coil, although he never really used the middle position, he just used neck alone or bridge alone. and no i dont think that exists in anything but the blackmore model with the 2 lace sensors that was made years back.

I once saw a video of Robbie Roberts (the band) jamming with Eric Clapton and Robbie was playing what looked like a Fender Strat with two pickups only. Maybe it was custom made for him?

Try the YJM strats, I think they're using a 3 way switch too

Just buy any strat and fit a 3 way switch. It's an easy thing to do, and should only take 30 minutes. Alternatively any guitar shop (even a bad one) should be able to do this in no time at all.

The Big Apple or Double Fat Strat came with 2 Duncan Humbucker and a 5 way switch.. I modded my Strat Plus to a Big Apple:

Lots of them. All the true vintage styled ones. The AV, the CS time machines, not sure but probably the MIM classics as they're vintage appointed But you can just wire in a three position to ANY strat. If you can't do it, the store could probably free of charge if your buying it. Don't let that narrow your choices down.

That's what I did to my Strat... two pickups, bridge and neck, and three positions. But I use the 5-way selector with the first three giving the selections. I really love the middle position now (neck and bridge together).

My American Vintage 57 came equipped with the 3-way switch and also included a 5-way in the case. I haven't switched it out yet....kinda like it the way it is.
