I've been seeing this instead of actual photos on some threads. Anyone know what it means, and why I can't see the images, but others can?

Photobucket has been a pain for a while now. It's what I started with years ago, and all my photos are there, but I'm probably switching over to imgur or something else soon.

never heard about this until just now.

apparently it's a thing where some people use photobucket to host pics in high-traffic commercial websites, so a given pic gets asked for a lot. i guess that's outside the original deal for free pic hosting.

it's not how many pics you have on photobucket, it's about whether they're getting used for high-demand stuff.

it's still a little confusing, because of this:

    *What is 3rd Party Hosting?
Alternatively refered to as inline linking, "hotlinking" is the action of linking to an image or object on another server. An example of hotlinking would be using an <img> tag to display a JPEG image that you uploaded to your Photobucket account so it will appear on a different website like Etsy, eBay auction listings, blogs, forum messages, etc.

using the <img> tag to display photos in forum messages is the entire reason i use photobucket. as far as i knew it was the entire reason the site even exists.

Noticed my pictures weren't showing so I went to my "free" photobucket account. It's new program effective a few days ago is $399.00 a year to have them host 3rd party pics. Wow! Can someone recommend other free sits?

I can't even get on the site. The ads take too long to load up.

So I just got my albums off of Photobucket, and put the pictures on a new Imgur account. How do I post a picture from Imgur here on TGP? I am trying, but no luck.

Right by the pic there should be a box labeled "bbcode," just copy and paste that, below that is a "thumbnail" option for small to huge to get different sizes.

downloading all of my pics on photobucket right now. its taking forever, didnt realize how many pics i had there.

i remember when webshots went belly up and i lost all my pics there. makes you think about properly backing up pics and how much things are different between the old days of actual printed pics.

Go to your images (click on your username on the upper right), click on the picture you want to post, then you can find a few links on the right. copy the second one, and paste it in the box that shows up when you click the "image" button when posting.

e.g.: The Simpsons on a train

BB Code didn't work (I'm probably doing something wrong) but Direct Link worked the same way Photobucket used to. Thanks!

Photobucket is the worst image hosting site for many reasons. The biggest, IMO, is the constant barrage of popup ads on their site. I won't even click on Photobucket anymore, for fear of locking up my computer with their adware. Please use another service to host your pictures for your posts.

Yes, please stop using Photobucket. I won't click on PB links anymore due to the user hostile ads.

How do you "download" your pictures on photo bucket back to your computer (iMac)?

Use the Download Album tab on PB.
That will put your pics in a zipfile, then download that,
at least that's how it works with Windows.
