Timeline + Boss DD Tap Tempo

Hey Guys

So I have a timeline and would like to get a Boss DD (perhaps DD5, not sure yet). The Boss DD is good for dotted 8th stuff and could be adjusted on the fly. What kinda tap tempo switch would you recommend that will allow me to do synced tap tempo on both delays? Also any special kinda cable I need between the timeline and the tap switch or any regular patch will work?

Thanks!

Hey there. Timeline requires a TRS cable for tap to work. DD-5 is standard TS cable.

As I can see it, you'll need to build a tap tempo with either two switches and jacks, or potentially could be built & wired for two jacks with one switch. Then a TRS cable for Timeline, and standard cable for the DD-5.

I actually had Matthew @ Disaster Area Amps build me one with two switches. Looks great. You should email him @ see what he can build for you!

So you can't actually sync both pedals to work on the same tap, you have to tap in the tempo twice?

I'm not 100% sure. For me, I wanted to have two separate switches. My standard tap is going to a DMM tap tempo, and I didn't want that always syncing with the Timeline, so I never asked.

I'm better off tapping the tempo into each device separately without the use of the above mentioned switch.

I'd like to tap the tempo once and have both devices sync up. It has to be possible... I think the Timeline will want it's own tap signal most likely - so the tap switch will have to somehow generate and send two separate signals both at the same time so both delays could be synced up. I'm just guessing here, don't know for sure...

I built a tap tempo switch that will sync to my DMMTT and my timeline. I had to use a DPDT momentary switch instead of an SPST so that I could wire up the output jacks independently.

There are a couple of options here: you can go mechanical / analog, by using a double-pole switch, or you can use MIDI to send taps to the Timeline and handle the other device with an analog connection. This still requires a double-pole switch but it does free up the Timeline's own expression input for a pedal.

If you're syncing up two devices with MIDI like a Timeline and an Eventide Factor (Timefactor, Modfactor, etc.) or M5, etc. then you can send taps to both with MIDI pretty easily.

To answer the question of the OP, it's possible to do it with a single switch as long as the switch has separate "poles" for each switch.

I bought one from Dan at This1smyne... One switch, 2 outs- one normally open TRS for my timeline, one normally closed normal plug for my DD5. Works like a charm.

So it's entirely possible to have one tap with 2 sync'd outs that will send to both a timeline and dd5.
