Tommy Emmanuel concert report

    My brain has been completely melted tonight!!!

    Got to hang out with him for about 20 minutes. Really a great and gracious guy. Funny too! I happen to mention I was Italian and he went off on all his Italian jokes he knows! lol

    Tommy is *THE* man... he's done the hard yards, and deserves every success he gets. Glad you got to hang out!

    Tommy is ridiculous. Glad you had a blast and got to meet him.

    Side note: I wonder if his Matons are short-scale? I know he has serious hand muscles but he plays them like they're cheap toys.

    Very cool. My buddy/bandmate & I were at the Raleigh show last Saturday. As usual, he was terrific.

    I've had those songs rattling around in my head non-stop all week. :)

    Saw him in Dallas a couple of weeks ago. Such a class act. Tommy make it look easy. Have dusted off my acoustics with some woodshedding. Tommy always brings a freshness to focusing on the music.

    I just saw him Feb. 20th. What a player AND entertainer. It shows that he's been at it since he was 6 !

    We saw him on FEB 18TH at Pepperdine and had the honor to meet with him before the show for a bit one helluva nice guy. Get this, a kid brings his new Maton guitar for Tommy to sign so he plays it for a minute then leaves the room comes back with his truss wrench and sets the kids guitar up for him. Fantastic artist and human being.

    Could I ask a dumb question: has anyone had a chance to check out one of his guitars? Was the action ridiculously low?
    I know, practice, talent, etc. but his guitars/set up must be part of the equation, no? Otherwise, I'm up sh*t's creek :rotflmao

    A local guitar guru I know met Tommy in Belfast and played one of his guitars. He reported very light strings and low action. Nonetheless, he is an incredible talent and I couldn't give a damn if he strings it with dental floss so long as he casts the magic he does.

    Totally agree but I can't help but wonder how he's playing some of those fast runs on an acoustic with a "normal" set up. The whole clip is cool but check out what he plays starting at 3:40:


    Amazing stuff.

    Tommy has said 12-54 and 13-56 are his gauges. The guy's got SRV hands

    Tommy has paid more dues than 10 men, he lives and breathes guitar. One of the best ever, plus one Hell of a great guy. Always inspiring!
