Not to say that these tone are GOOD but..

When i listned back to three clips i have done with the same backing but three different guitars and three different amps i realised that i would not be sure what guitar amp combo was used if i didn't already know.
Also the clips sound similar, so in my opinion I make a greater difference than the guitars and amp (I'm not sure that's a good thing :D )
So discuss; does these clips sound similar?
Guess which guitar amp combination is used for each clip.
    Guitars are:
1961 LesPaul(SG) with mid 60's patent number buckers
2006 Soloway swan with Vintage Vibe blade humbucersized single coils
2005 Chapin Hawk, hollow alder spruce top and humbuckers, but the neck has great statish sound when split.
    Amps:
Mystique Blue Star rebuild by Cougar to a something close ta 70's dumble, sort of. (EL34)
Mystique Mystic Blues, a ODS style of amp tweaked to a 80's Dumble sound (6L6)
Custom By Cougar Hawk Marshall/Trainwreck style sort of.. (EL34)

    First clip

    Second clip

    Third clip

I try to start with some clams during the first few bars ;) . All is recorded with SM57. Speakers differ as well, I think it's either g12-65 or an Alnico Altec Lansing

I hear the tonal difference, but they all sound good, and sound like the same player on slightly different gear.

That might be a fun backing track to have folks here compare blues tones with :)

    All sound pretty similar.

I'm gonna take a guess and say that the first one is from the trainwreck style amp.

    3. Hawk

I don't know much about those amps though.

Too many variables to guess accurately, would have been more empirical had you used only one guitar.

Great playing though, they all sound killer.

They all sound good to me. The first one has that early Santana tone. For me, I hear similarities to other players instead of to amps or guitars.

No clue what gear used for which recordings. The tones were all tasty. The playing was excellent!

Question: Is that backing track available to download from somewhere? I like the groove.

I only hope I'm right, so don't be too hard on yourself.

The only thing I'm remotely familiar with is the SG.

How did I do it? I'm not telling until abergdahl returns.:)

OK, I'll say this. If you pay real close attention, he gave the answers away and probably doesn't know it.:D

    That is, if I'm right...

We'll find out for sure tomorrow.

    Guitars:

    1- Chapin Hawk
    2- SG Les Paul
    3- Soloway Swan

    Amps:

    1- Mytique Blues
    2- MArshall T Wreck
    3- Mystique Blue Star

Seems Gkoelling and I have the same logic behind all this...dig into it and you'll find. HINT: "Click me"!
I'll even go as far as saying that: the first sample was done with a Altec LAnsing, SM57 combo
and the third with a G12-65, SM57 combo.

    ;)

The Angel of Tone just whispered in my ear - hendrix and Gkoelling are right:

    1. Hawk and Mystique Blues

    2. SG and Custom by Cougar

    3. Swan and Mystique Blue Star

    Great tone all three!

Well to surely prove your point you should have played a Squier strat through a 15w gorilla practice amp.:dude

Thanks for listening guys :BEER . Having two of the clips on Soundclick DID make it a bit easier ;) . But we can all agree that it it NOT easy to hear what style of amp and guitar that is being used in a recording. With the SG i started out with the neck PU and volume SLIGHTLY down and then switched to bridge. I also thing that a good D-style should be able to be a lot rawer than what you typically hear from most playing these amps!
So, first was Chapin hollow Hawk (alder body spruce top) with the Mystic Blues. Second was SG through custom By Cougar Hawk (GREAT Rock amp with Plexi and a bit of Trainwreck in the tone)
and the last clip is Soloway Swan through a Mystique Blue Star rebuild to something reminding of a early 70's Dumble but single channel.

Here's a NEW clip with a new guitar, I talked Tommy Cougar into doing be a guitar. The concept is his idea, it is basically a Tele with wrap around tailpiece and a Firbeird bridge pickup as the ONLY pickup :drool . Amp used is Mystic Blues > G12-65 > SM57 echo added in the mix:
    More TONE
So does it sound like Robben :D

    Thanks again :BEER

    OK,

I figured out the clips not by listening but by looking. I didn't even listen to more than 30 seconds or so of clip 2 or 3.

All these clips have titles that are shown as the tune is being played. The titles show what gear is being used. They're abreviated but they are right there in front of you.

    Cheating? Nah! Ingenuity.

Forgive me for not saying this earlier. The playing is great and I love the tone.
