I'm heavy into Jimmy Herring and love his Super Reverb tone and thought about some Tone Tubby 10's in my Super, but holy crap...a set of 4 would cost as much as I paid for my vintage Super...any ideas?

Yeah, get the ceramic TT 10. A lot less money than the Alnico and I like ceramic speakers better. 130.00 vs. 269.00!

About five or six years ago I started buying the "original" Tone Tubby Alnico Hemp Cones in 12 inch and loved them SOOOO much I eventually converted ALL Cabinets and Combos here over to them.

This includes two Dr.Z 4x10 Cabs and a Z 2x10 Cab....those are loaded with Alnico H1-E Hemps in 10 inch. The Amplifiers driving these are Dr.Z MAZ Juniors and MAZ Seniors. You can crank a 38 watt Senior into the 2x10 and it stays big, bold, and tight....and allows as much volume as you like.
Some people say they are "darker"....I say "warmer"...
They don't spike or ice-pick as you roll the volume upwards.
However, you CAN dial-in as much treble or presence as desired.

Not that it matters, but I guess Derek Trucks uses Ceramic Tubbies in his Super-Sixes?
    I love his tone.

yeah, right on. You can go with another speaker, which there is no harm in doing, but if the TT's are the be-all end all, save up. You only live once.

They might be good as 12" speakers, I haven't had those but the Hemp Cone AlNiCo 10" was the darkest, not warmest speaker I have ever heard. I love warm speakers but this speaker sounded like I had a packing blanket over the cab. I had one of the earlier ones so I assume they fixed the problem by now but at $259.00 a pop, try before you buy.

+3 on the TT's, the Alnicos and Ceramics areworth there weight in gold. I sat on the fence a long time and I am glad I jumped in. I am in the midst of converting my super over to 4 Alnico TT's, it is worth it!

Actually Derek Trucks uses custom Weber speakers designed to mimic a certain Pyle Driver speaker, which is no longer available.

I think that of all those speakers shown, only REM and Ben C. (I don't think I know who he is) used 10" TT's. That is a very weird 4 X 10" cab that Ben C. uses. It looks like an old parade bass drum.

I must have just heard poor clips; didn't dig the TT tones at all, I'm afraid. Not that I mind shelling out for a good speaker; bought a Celestion blue in the 90's when they were fetching premium $. I've yet to be wowed by the TT's.

you mean lack of experience owning both?
    excused!;)

the TT is a good bit more articulate
the Emi seemed a bit congested to me
    both are warm

    caveat
i have played the hell out of the TT
and only had the Emi for a short time

the TT sounded much better afer breaking in
so maybe the Emi would too?

I am thinking of replacing the 10inch speaker in my Mesa Subway Rocket. I basically just want a speaker that makes it sound less boxy and more like a 1x12. I have been thinking about the Tone Tubby 10inch ceramic, or the Eminence Lil Buddy or Ragin Cagin. Scott at South Vally Vintage amps can get me the TT for around 108 I think so its just a few beers more than the Eminence stuff. Any suggestions?
