Bought a new TP tuneonatic on eBay from a guy who said he'd bought it but never installed it. No packaging. The locking variety. The bridge just says TonePros but the tailpiece says TonePros Licensed underneath. Is this somehow an inferior piece? Not that I'm likely to notice the difference. Just curious. Thanks.

    Why not just ask TonePros?

I can't tell you the specific differences about those pieces or really how to discern all the different variations of their product line, but I do know that there are indeed cheaper versions.

For example, the ones you buy direct from TonePros are different than what you commonly would see on most import guitars. Makes sense as the full boat models aren't exactly cheap, so you can't expect that that's what you're getting on a 500 dollar guitar.

I'd be interested to hear from others or if you find out more yourself.

I think the Tonepros higher end stuff is done by Gotoh and I'm usually pleased with their products. Not sure who does the import versions.
