Tour Box Threads

From the beginning of TGP, we've always encouraged builders to have tour boxes. Given the current situation in the world and the distress it has placed on everyone and in particular, small builders, we wanted to cultivate and support builders that want to create "Tour Boxes".

To do that, we've created a prefix for manufacturers to use, called (no surprise) "Tour Box". While TGP takes no responsibility for conducting or managing Tour Boxes (that's up the manufacturer) we do want to see more of them for the benefit of both the membership and builders alike.

If you do not know what a Tour Box is, my definition is: a given product that may not be available in retail stores to test and try in person is sent out in a serial manner to a list or chain of people that get on the list, in order to test and try a product for a given amount of time, and then ship it on to the next person on the list.

It is our hope that this helps support the small builders out there.

Thanks for this. I have participated in quite a few tour boxes in the past. I have gotten the opportunity to test (and later purchase) a few pedals because of them.

This is great news.

Tour boxes are the best. We (Source Audio) did a bunch of them a few years back. It was a great way for us to get firsthand feedback from a bunch of guitar and bass players and played no small role in the overall improvement of our pedals. It was the beginning of a longstanding conversation between Source Audio and the TGP community. Thanx, TGP!

Bought my first set of custom goalie gear (Pete Smith) after trying a demo set that had crisscrossed North America a dozen times. A super great idea that moves a lot of units IME.

Thank you Scott! I started doing Tourboxes in 2002 and as you said they are just as viable then as now and maybe more so with our current situation.
Im thinking of doing something similar but not TourBox but similar. Maybe like a set of cables for members.

Like sets of Providence cables for members to try out and see whats up for themselves and have the cables go on tour so to speak lol.

Great idea Don and really awesome for customers as well.

Or maybe have enough samples that if someone asked I can send one or a couple to test out or something if they pay there and shipping back. They try out the selection before buying it would be worth it for the customer.

This is an excellent idea. We were mulling it over when another user sent us a message asking us to consider this idea.

After some thought, we are considering doing this but we have to figure out which demo guitar to send out into the world. Asking guys to install & uninstall pickups is a recipe for disaster.

Thanks to everyone a TGP for all of their hard work. This is such a great place for gear & music enthusiasts.

Id really like to participate in a tour box chain but seeing how badly the major shippers are functioning or rather Not functioning id be leery to be involved especially if the products didnt get to the next person.

You can always insure stuff for up to the value of the products so its not that bad really if its a few people that would be willing to do it whatever it is.

I’ve never gotten to participate in a tour box. They seem like fun but I’m always afraid that I’d forget to mail them to the next person.

I did this with a carbon classical guitar some years back. It was great. I still hope to buy one at some point.
