    Is it possible to "trade" the pre-amp of one amp for another vice versa "simultaneously" by the way of send/return or pre-amp out/in?

    Take two amps:

    Fender (HRD III)
    Marshall style w/effects loop.

    Guitar => A/B switcher => ...

    A => Fender pre-amp out => Marshall pwr-amp in
    B => Marshall pre-amp out => Fender pwr-amp in

    Think of it as creating two amps

    1) Fender pre / Marshall pwr
    2) Marshall pre / Fender pwr

    I know you can do it one way e.g. Amp 1 pre => Amp 2 pwr, but can you route them going both ways?

    The concept is viable. It would depend on how versatile the effects loop of a particular amp is. You could probably rig something up with an effects pedal "looper".
