Ones that really improve the tone of a good tube amp (and good overdrives and fuzz pedals) that are affordable.

Lots of threads on this topic here...lots....
After owning 9 or so, I liked the Naga Viper the best in compromise for stability And tone.... the problem with the Germanium ones is that they change their sound accordingly to different temperatures... amazing one day, sucky the next...
Some guys stick them in their freezers before gigs:)

There’s quite a long thread on this exact topic on page one of this forum right now.

There's a lot of good ones out there. I love the Analogman Beano Boost and Keeley Java Boost.

It's not a complicated circuit I believe. Not sure why they are so much... o have heard good things about the Java Boost (no longer made) and +1 on Naga Viper.

You've obviously never had to source germanium transistors. I bought 10 OC71's a while back at about $10 each and ended up with one that tested in the acceptable gain range for a treble booster circuit. I didn't test for leakage though and it doesn't sound right next my beano and other treble boosters so there is another parameter that can trash your hopes. When somebody like Analogman finds a bunch of old transistors they don't just all go in pedals. Each one that isn't acceptable is a financial hit.

    2 questions:

    What amp?
How are you setting the amp (are you pushing it to compress)?

    That's a plus.

I'm narrowing my options to the Naga Viper and the BBE Bohemian.

The Naga Viper reviews are slightly more favorable than those of the BBE, due to the Naga Viper's additional time shaping options.

However the one feature of the BBE that catches my attention is the built-in Sonic Exciter circuitry.

Can you guys help me out with this one?

    Thanks

Can’t go wrong with the Naga Viper. Versatile as all hell. The HBE Germania shows up on Reverb around $100 and to my ears has that ragged, old school snarl. I’ve settled on the Greer Pork n Beans which seems to balance out simplicity, versatility, and authenticity. Treble Booster prices are weird. You have to check listings every day.

The Boss GE-7 can be used as a boost where you can tailor the frequencies in the best way for your particular overdrives. You can get what most boost pedals offer, but way more adjustability.

Ive been through quite a few and have really fallen for the BSM Velvet for Germanium. Its absolutely fantastic. I can also highly recommend the Naga Viper. Whether Im using it at the moment or not Ill never get rid of mine.

If someone wants to own multiple TBs I feel comfy recommending the Naga as it occupies a niche. It does a thing.

But I cannot be sure someone would prefer it in isolation, compared to one with the finest germanium tranny.

I like it, but I like 50% silicon on my board.

I would never use germanium for breast implants however. You'd have to keep your breasts in the freezer on hot days.
