In 2014, Trey started appearing on stage with a sunburst Languedoc. Looked like perhaps he was using a new 'doc, except that it had the same distinctive headstock shape and inlay that had originally appeared on his second-ever Languedoc in the early 90's.

Guitar geeks / Trey fans went nuts, and lit up the 'net with rumors about the guitar. Old?! New!? Hybrid??? Aaarrggghh?!?!

Well, here's the man himself, explaining the situation.

(Added bonus: Trey rarely says much of anything on stage. Gotta love that when he chose to, in this instance, it was dedicated to some guitar geekery!)

love Trey and Phish, thanks. I't be interesting to see how he Languedoc) sawed it and repaired it….

There's also a video where he talks about his pedals and such…. most of it he's had around since the beginning including a homemade cab from high school. He should be banned from TGP!! lol

Indeed. Especially because it seems that in recreating it with a new neck, Languedoc salvaged the original headstock and/or headstock inlay...?

Alas... out of answers come more riddles...

Also... I should be clear that I'm not the hero who filmed this footage. I just stumbled across it on FB, and thought this community would enjoy...

Hah, that's a tough audience for that kind of story, too.

Wow, great insights into the instruments of Phish! Thanks for all that work on the Google doc.

Cool topic, but...weird topic for stage banter. Did he forget that the Rig Rundown typically happens before the show?

Nah. Phish fans have been happily lapping it up for 30 years.

I too would have loved to see how it was repaired. I have seen the other videos where each band member talked about their gear, those were great.

FWIW, loving the new Phish album they released last year.
