TS9 Tubescreamer Mod Question

Hey folks! So today, I bought a TS9 from someone locally on craigslist for $20. I wasn't really in the market for a Tubescreamer, but I figured that $20 for a TS9 was an absolute no brainer and that if I didn't like it, I could sell it and make $$ off of it. Anyway, I do like the tone of the pedal well enough through my little Vox AC4TV (My Bassman LTD is at my band's practice space, so I haven't had the chance to try that combo out) with my '10 Classic Player 60's Strat, however, I'm entertaining the thought of sending it out for a mod. I'm just looking for some advice and opinions.

I'm naturally looking at the Keeley Mod Plus and the Analogman Silver Mod. I'm not closed off to other mod options, I just don't know anything about them. So my obvious question is, which of the two do you prefer? Are there any mod options out there that people feel are better?

I also have a Fulldrive II on my board and I know that it is basically a juiced up Tubescreamer in and of itself. Are the TS9 mod options different from what my Fulldrive II does? Is there any need for me to go with the TS9 mods if I already have a fulldrive?

I play in a country/rock band playing most of the lead stuff through a Bassman LTD with either a '96 American Strat, a '10 Classic Player 60's Strat or a '10 American Special Tele with a Seymour Duncan in the neck and a Fralin in the bridge. As I said before, I also have a Fulldrive II on my board as well as an '85 Whiteface RAT Reissue.

Any thoughts?

I just received mine with a Silver mod and love it !!
very smooth without the midrange hump that made me have a love-hate relation with the Greeny in the past!

If you can solder you can do the mods yourself and save quite a bit. It was my first attempt at a pedal mod and it turned out great.

I sent it to Analogman and it sounds much better. I've always felt the Fulldrive sounded more hi fi and has a freq I'm not crazy about. They're both in the same family of gain but there's something about a TS that just sounds right with a fender. The chip makes the biggest difference.

I own a couple of AM modded to 808 spec Tubescreamers - an OD9 w/Silver mod & TS9 w/Brown mod - and I also own a FD2. IMO, they're different enough to justify owning both.

While they can be set to sound similar, regardless of settings... the FD2 (even when set in the most TS-like Vintage mode) still has less midrange push and doesn't cut as well. It's a more relaxed & open type of Tubescreamer tone & feel, whereas the AM modded TS's sound and feel punchier and are more direct/focused with more mids.

I like and use both.

Out of all the tube screamers I've owned and played, The one that stayed on my board the longest, was a reissue I did a 808 mod, then i did the more gain mod, then I did the bass increase mod, then i swapped Op amps around until i found that the stock ta75558 op amps sounded best with all those mods.

I've had my silver modded screamer for about 10 years now. Absolutely the best overdrive pedal I've owned.

Wasn't Brad Paisley using a Keeley mod TS a few years back? That might be a good one for country. BTW, the Wampler Paisley Drive is a modded TS.
