I'm wanting to get a better tone out of my Fender
64 Vibroverb Custom, currently I'm looking at re-tubing it with
JAN Philips 7581A's and JAN GE 12AX7WA preamp tubes...

what tubes do people recommend for the the other sockets... i.e. reverb, vibrato etc...

as far a speakers are concerned I'm interested in the weber neomag 15", but am not sure what dome and cone type... any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated...

I'm also curious as to whether or not people use the mod switch on their vibroverb's?

I did none of the changes you specifiy when I had mine. Had it for several years and used it just as is, think that speaker is tailor-made for that amp.

If it were my amp I would save a few $$$ and get a set of the new Tung Sol 6L6GC STR's. As for pre amp tubes I like the GE 12ax7wa in V1,V2 an RCA in V4 any in V5. For V3 a Mullard or RCA 12at7 and V6 a GE 12at7.

    thanks for the replies...

is there much of a difference between the NOS RCA 12AX7As and the JAN GE 12AX7WA's?

is the mod switch on the back essentially the same as pulling out the normal channel and vibrato tubes?

    thanks again...

    Luke.

I had one and change the speaker out for a JBLD130 and honestly liked the stock speaker better.

what was it about the stock speaker that you liked?
was the JBL in good condition, or due for a re-cone or something?

Believe it or not the JBL was in good cond and stock. It was a little too smooth for my tastes, I wanted a little more grit and the stock speaker had it.

OK so here's what i'm currently considering...

    V1 & V5 Tung Sol 12AX7 (reissue)
    V2 & V4 JAN GE 12AX7WA or NOS RCA 12AX7A's
    V3 & V6 Mullard CV4024's

power tubes JAN Philips 7581A's or NOS GE 6L6GC's?

Which tubes do people feel would be better for my vibroverb and current setup (see sig)..?
