Hook the Tube DI into the mixer live, hook up an MXR EQ, and then spike it w/some OD/dist pedals when I want dirt?

    COuld this be worthwhile?

Or would a tube mic preamp going direct into the mixer be the ticket for a "direct" clean amp?

Why not just try an amp modeler that is designed to go direct?
If you must have the tube, try the Vox modeler.

    Good question

the thing is, is that I need those 3 items anyway for "non-backup rig" purposes, so they will be dual functioning

    In normal situations:
1.THe Linden will be used to eq my strat in when I switch from the buckers
2.The pdi will be used rather than mic the cab

The only thing not used is the mic pre which will be on stby in case the rig goes down, but i want to use that anyway for home studio use as well

If the rig goes down, I'll just hook my pedal board into the Linden>mic pre>pdi>mixer

I use a V-Stack Tweedy, set for clean, plus or minus a Carl Martin parametric EQ (with XLR out) for pretty much the same application. Works great, sounds as amp like as any non-amp I've heard to date and I can hit it with other pedals and it behaves like an amp. Speaker sim helps a lot.

Cool, I just started researching this thanks to your post

Will the tweedy deliver high headroom cleans at stage level volumes when going direct into the mixer?
