Is there a way to turn off avatars? I think it would help some of the spacing issues ppl have mentioned.

Also there are always going to be some risqué avatars that are too close to or just plain nsfwork/wife.

At this point no, there are no plug-ins or options available to do it. If there is a supported plug-in to allow it we will give it serious consideration.

Not sure if it helps, but there's this

    https://userstyles.org/styles/94568/avforums-xenforo-remove-avatars

This is the biggest downside to the upgrade to me. A little googling shows it's some kind of style setting. I'm not sure if it's possible to create a style that doesn't show them that users could select just like the current classic and dark styles.

I dig the avatars. Mobile chrome on Android doesnt really have any spacing issues. But then again not everyone uses Chrome

They are not sharing that plug-in at this time. The author of it (from what I've read) may at some point. If it becomes available we will look at it very closely and use it if we can. At this point it's a style for their own forum only.

There might be something here too. Look at the first reply.

    "Very easy, go to:

Style Properties > Discussion List > Discussion Starter Avatar

Now change 'display: block;' to 'display: none;'

I don't know if you guys can create or copy styles, but perhaps taking the main style, changing that property and saving it as another style we can select would be possible.

That's from 2011. The version we use is current v1.4.7.. However, we will - as noted - will look into it.

There is an easy way to disable for those using Firefox and AdBlockPlus (or a similar blocker). You need to add the following 2 custom filters:

    ||thegearpage.net/board/styles/tgp_classic/xenforo/avatars/*

Not only the avatars are gone, but the grid is much more compact after the change

If they would remove the "Joined", 'Messages", and "Location" fields just below the avatar, that would reduce a lot of the white space in most posts. This information can easily be obtained on any post by scrolling over the avatar and left-clicking. I don't see the reason to repeat that information for each post.

Cool. Unfortunately that takes away the ability to see which threads you've posted in, but it's an improvement.

I really dig the avatars as well, but as the OP mentioned, they can get out of control quickly. A quick glance at some other music-related forums (I won't mention names) will show you how it becomes a contest for who can post the most NSFW avatar without crossing the line that gets them banned.

Nice, this works like a champ. I was using a browser addon called 'stylish' that got the same results but I think I like this better.

I agree. This ABP custom filter works to get rid of these lines:

    thegearpage.net##div.extraUserInfo
