I'm looking at Mojo, Mission, Marsh.....
Which ones have the better quality, sound, etc.

I asked this question about a year ago and got a LOT of responses. The clear majority thought that the stock Mission 5E3 kit was the way to go. Most authentic sound, great instructions, great parts quality, best all-around value.

Mission seems the way to go if you read the net (and the helpful person Bruce Collins seems to be). Personally I have great experience with Mojo (TAD, being in Europe), but prefer Hammond transformers over Heyboers or even Mercury :)eek:).

I'm about to order a Li'l Dawg D-Luxe and so far Jim has been an amazing wealth of information, a really nice guy, and seems to know exactly what he's doing.

The best part? You can get a 5e3 chassis kit from him built and working for less than a Mission kit that you build yourself.

Given that you are in Montreal, you really need to look at Trinity Amps out of Toronto. www.trinityamps.com

Quick, cheap, duty free shipment, excellent support through Stephen and his forum, and a very detailed 55 page instruction manual that not only takes you step-by-step through the build, it also explains just about every single subtletey in the design of the Tweed Deluxe.

I built the Tweed Deluxe. First ever amp I built. It's all top of the line vintage spec parts and it sounds beautiful. It's been going strong for a year and half now. Very happy with it.

I agree, Bruce is the man if you have any problems or want to do mods as you build it.

Trinity in T.O.

Quality parts and great technical service.

Located in Canada so less $$$ for shipping than from an International location.

No Customs Handling Fees.

I have also looked at the Marsh kit, and want to get the "best" 5e3 kit I can. I have a Cel Blue waiting for it - so don't need a speaker.

Unfortunately for me, I live in the UK and all the hi-end kits seem to be sourced from the US. The shipping / import tax / VAT is a killer!! (I've calculating approx $170 just to get it over here). So comparing the cost of a Mission kit (with the nice-to-havs I want) to a very similar Marsh kit with the more or less the same options - the Marsh works out around $300 cheaper!

Am I missing something?? Does anyone have a view as to this discrepancy or whther the Mission kit is worth the xtra bucks??

Check out Allparts, they get the Mojo kits in stock there. I've just put a blue in my 5e3 and it improved the amp by about 10 times!

About 5 yrs ago I ordered and built a Marsh 5F6A kit. When it arrived I realized it was a kit from Mojo.. No problems, he sold it for less. I don't know if that's still the case, but the parts were all of fine quality. All the Mojo cab's I've gotten my hands on have been excellent!

One thing I would suggest.. I've seen tons of people on these boards who build a 5E3 and immediately want more clean headroom. "Can I put 6L6's in my 5E3, I need more headroom".. If you think that might be you, spend an extra 5-10 $$ and have them ship a Deluxe Reverb 20-25W OT with your kit, if that's not what it comes with already. If the kit is true to the original, it's going to ship with a 12-15w OT.

Also.. great budget priced speakers that match up well with the 5E3 circuit: Weber Signature Series 12S ceramic ($30 weber has 10% off on speakers now..so $27+ship) or a Mojotone American Vintage AV12C ($40+ship).

Have fun building your 5e3!

Tube Depot has what looks like a great kit and they have taken a different approach in that they have designed a heavy duty PCB board.

There is a complete instruction video you can watch and they take it out and play it afterwards. It sounds terrific - very tweed deluxe. Finally, the price is very aggressive.

http://www.tubedepot.com/kit-tweeddeluxe.html

Scroll down and watch the video, it is a good quality intro to this amp. They also have a 48 page instruction manual that looks very high quality.

At $599, this kit seems like a real possibility. I am considering the purchase of this one for myself.

I built a Mission Tweedy Deluxe about 3 years ago. Excellent kit, instructions and quality parts. No need to upgrade anything. I thought a Mercury OT would help. Actually liked Missions stock better. Good luck.

What were you running before?
I ask because everyone has told me to go with the usual Jensen.

It had the Jensen P12-q in it, mine is the Fender reissue.
If you playing single coil pickups at home with it then that speaker will probably suite but I mainly play humbuckers and want to gig it.
The Blue almost doubled the volume and gave a tighter bottom end and just smoother tone all round for me.

Yes, $743 with all inclusive. It looks like sparque caps and orange 715p. I dont know what PT and OT, but do you think it can handle 6L6?
