Two-Rock dilemma.

Hey all! Just wanted your opinion on a serious dilemma:

Which Two-Rock amp should I choose -
The Classic Reverb or the new Crystal?

I've been going back and forth on which model that would suit me best for a long time now. Decided on the Classic Reverb. After a solid 600 hours of work I have saved enough money to purchase the amp of my dreams. At the exact moment I was ready to send my order, Two-Rock dropped the bomb on me releasing a John Mayer inspired amp which was exactly what I was looking for. My pulse raised a whole lot when I first read - but then...
The looks! The lack of switches! The knobs! The tolex!

As probably some of you understand, it is much I do not like about the new amplifier. Anyway, I like the idea behind the amplifier and will not rule out buying it.
If it is the one amp getting me closer to the Mayer tone, I may be able to look behind the design and the lack of features,

but should I?

Would the Classic Reverb be a better option, and will it give me a better versatility to change things around if I want to?

I have decided on a 50w. with a 1x12 cabinet. I will buy a matching cab on any of the options.

Classic Reverb:
Pros:

- 50/22 watt switch
- Effects loop
- Great reverb
- Lots of features and switches
- Design ie. classy Two-Rock look

Cons:
- A slight bit more pricey (not really an issue)

Crystal:
Pros:
(Needs to be said that I have not yet played or heard this amp)
- Mayer tone?

Cons:
- Design
- No low power switch

Thanks in advance for all input. It is highly appreciated as I am about to spend a lot of money on this.

Clips containing the tone that I am looking for. My guess is this is achievable with both amps, but still.

If possible playing both side by side should give you the answer. If you can't play the crystal, and you've played the CR (and love it), I'd stick with that.

You'll be happy to know the Crystal does include a passive effects loop, same as the Classic Reverb.

All that money to sound like the most mediocre talent on the planet? I don't get the Mayer worship at all. It sells Two Rocks apparently though.

If all you need is "clean sound", buy a Fender Twin and save yourself thousands of dollars. Or, buy 2 Twins (Quad Reverb) and still save yourself a lot of money.

If you want overdrive, like Robben Ford, I'm sure there's several Two Rock models that would foot the bill. After all, Two Rock is known for its Dumble style drive channel. That's what made them famous in the 1990s, before anyone had heard of Mayer and Katy Perry.

I have a 1x12 signature cab for sale if your looking. I have the classic reverb 50 with duel recto head. Its a great sounding amp and works well with pedals. Not super loud, if you need that move on.

I understand the impatience, been there before. Wait for one more week to know what to expect out of the Crystal. Last thing you want is the impatience to screw over 600 hours of manpower. I'd invest in taking a trip to a dealer for that much money if I was not certain by then.

I personally don't factor in aesthetics if it delivers the tone, what if Two Rock amps looked like that from the start and Mayers did too?
I don't think anyone would be so critical...

Good luck!

Thanks a lot! Apparently missed that post in the Crystal thread.

Haha man. Thanks for your humble opinion! I'll hit you up when I need my financial advices. ;)

Thanks! I am located in Norway so the shipping expenses will be a lot so it depends on how much you're selling it for. Hit me up on PM!

Thanks. You are absolutely right. The problem is that here in Norway we've got only one (!) Two-Rock dealer. Its a fairly small company named Vintage guitar, and they don't keep all the models in stock. My guess is they won't order any of the high end models unless someone have asked for them.

I get where you're going in your post, and I am gonna let that soak in a bit. Need to say though, the standard Two-Rocks do look good...

He might be a mediocre talent but his tone is impeccable, as is Matt Schofields, who is quite a bit more then mediocre.

try and have some patience until you can try (or at least reports start coming in) the crystal.

i wouldnt get too hung up on the based on mayer thing - that has basically been the representation of most/all of the single channel clean platforms, subsequent to the mayer, i think.

I know he is embarrassed, so I said I would ask for him.

John wants to know what he could do better or differently to impress you?

haha :rotflmao

said the guy trashing mayer, whenever and wherever possible, on An internet forum.

I'm not sure if you are referring to me, but it seems that way.
You must have me confused with somebody else if so. I'm not into "trashing" other musicians.

I'd say stick with the TR CRS. I think in a couple years everyone will realize how ugly the Crystals look, and that the CRS will get you an amp that's just as good with the aesthetic appearance to boot.

...and I have to agree to disagree with you, Metheny. He has the subdued playing thing down and really knows how to build a solo from the ground up...has the songwriting capability that, in spite of some of his earlier stuff that many don't favor, I think is great now. It's all taste though, and there are a lot of people I don't like that others do too, so I know where you're coming from.

I know, John Mayer should attend a Kurt Rosenwinkel concert. After which, Mayer will never pick up a guitar again.

Haha, he did! Also performed almost right after one another. Crossroads 2013. :) I've heard many a jazz cat praise a blues man. Sort of surprised when I first heard George Benson go nuts over B.B. King, but I think even the jazz players recognize the different talent that other genres have. Kurt really is something else though.

Anyway getting off topic...CRS! Especially if the cash isn't an issue!

BB King said "George Benson is the greatest blues guitarist on the planet" or something like that, decades ago.

Obviously this guy is trolling, ALL posts I've read are trashing the Mayer respect around here.

Dude you are such a new member and the majority of your posts are less than helpful.

It's obvious by your name and name throwing that you like Jazz
When in college, I took classical guitar instead of jazz not because I liked it more but because I couldn't deal with the jazz students who thought they where so sophisticated and the teachers who where little more than frustrated musicians looking down at anything that wasn't their "style"

At first I was hoping you're not that kind of guy but after all of your few posts I think you can't help yourself
