I own the infamous Emerald Pro 'Prototype', which was formerly owned by TAG ! It resembles an 'Emerald 50', but in fact, it is quite different. Arguably, the closest-sounding amp to Robben Ford"s tan Dumble ! Check out Tag's multiple GP posts and videos. It was originally owned by 'Indoor Storm'.

Here are a couple of quotes from the February 2002 Tone Quest Reports from an interview with Bill K and Joe M:

TQR: How much did the Emerald 50 differ from your
first ten amps?

Joe: We settled on the Emerald name, formed K&M,
and we ordered fifty chassis, which at the time seemed really
crazy since it was just Bill and I. We didn’t have a large
bankroll, and we didn’t take out a loan. We were just two
guys with very little experience in production and manufacturing,
having built the first ten amps one at a time. We ended
up hiring a couple of guys and started out in a barn at a little
apple orchard in California. No heat, and just two employees,
and Bill and I.

TQR: How long did you build the Emerald 50?

Joe: About a year, and we built around 140-150 of them.

So where the heck are all of the early serial numbers now? Why only 20 or so here among TGP members???

...the search for the earliest Emerald 50 continues...

In case you're still looking...I just bought serial #152 and it looks like 131 is for sale on Reverb from Thailand.

I realize that this is an old thread, but I thought I would add that I own Sapphire 100 #156. It is the 100W version of the Emerald 50. I believe only 17 of them were made.

I've just bought #175 from a shop in Perth here in Australia. I'm in Sydney so it's wild to think this amp was made in the early days of TR & sent half way across the world even for then.
Don't know if the 240v transformer was from the shop or changed after the fact.
Don't know how many owners its had before me either.
I spoke to Gil at TR who's offered to look at some internal shots of the chassis which should help pin down some of the finer details.

Great buy! Is it an Emerald Pro? and we need some photos!

Thanks! I bought it sight unseen thinking it must be special or at least collectible. Sold a Princeton Celestion Blue 12" to fund the purchase. I wanted something similar but more refined.
It's arriving this time next week so I'll be happy to share my own photos then. These are from the store:

I currently have #107. It's been heavily modded by Bill in the Cutsom Reverb vein and just SINGS on the lead channel now. Independent reverbs for each channel too.

This is quite likely useless, except to the sleuths.

I had an early Emerald 50 2x 6L6.

Then an Amethyst that was modded by Bill to be "Special" (find me here and elsewhere). 4 EL84s in this.

Then a Ruby style. It was OK, but so were the other pseudo Wrecks.

Then a Rockett knockoff I posted to TAG. That did not go well. But, yeah. This was right decent.

Then an Opal. Perfect. So Perfect. S/N 008 I recall?

Sold it (Ugh).

Got it back! Yay!

Sold that (008) to pay rent after I got divorced. (Dang)

<Might be one other, but there was a flurry of amps when we were recording...and then the Personal Turmoil...>

Honestly? Loved them all.
