I have the chance to pick up one of these in head version in a trade. It seems to be in good condition. What's your take on this amp??

Had one - liked it a LOT! What are you giving up in trade?

They do a lot really well. Cleans, Overdrive, low volume - no attenuator needed, nice reverb. Just a really nice all-round amp.

IF it's a fair trade, i would definitely get on it. But again, it depends what you'd be giving up.

I thought it was a very good rock amp with good cleans.
    It's an HRM circuit.
    It was my second TR.
They usually sell for around $1500 - $1800.

Again, depends on what youre giving up. I think the $1500-1800 number is about right. They seem to take a while to sell while the Custom Reverb and the Signature seem to be move better.
There seems to be a few Custom 50s up for trade lately- or maybe its the same one...

Thanks for the feedback guys, that's very helpful. We'll see how things turn out. I'm in no rush.

Owned an Emerald 50 for a year...not as sweet as a Custom or Sig or Jet...Does really clean well, and the OD is very Marshally...can be very loud...to my ears it's a poor man's Kimock..Definitely the rawest sounding of all the Two Rocks..Highly recommended for loud Rock and Roll...Their newer amps are far more refined sounding... as Sean said, $1500-$1800 is usually what they go for..A great price for getting a real Two Rock...They are very unique guitar amplifiers, and have their own mojo going for them,,, They also have the internal trimmers for gain, treble, bass, mids which helps with the EQ situation...my amp loved Celestion G12-65's for speakers..

I had a Sapphire (the 100 watt version). Great amp - crunchy, classic rock OD tones (more marshally), and very nice cleans. FWIW, I thought the cleans were very similar to my E.pro, and the gain was a bit more raw, though in the same camp.

What is the difference in the two. Is it the gain?

Not sure, might be a small difference in components... with a bigger difference in price. :p

Off topic, but does anyone know what an Onyx Signature is going for used? Thanks!

Dont know about the Onyx question, but I owned an Em50 112 combo for awhile. GREAT cleans, in the Two Rock tradition.
Overdrives were Marshally with good definition...a bit 'rougher' and possibly a pinch more gain than the EmPro.
Also...that amp LOVED Fane alnico spkrs. As do alot of TR's.

Be careful with an Emerald 50. Ask to see a photo of the guts before buying.
