So, the other thread sorta got derailed.
Anyways, I have a used Tyler coming and was wondering a few things for those of you who have them
Studio Elite model
First of all, it "looks" like a regualr strat setup as per where the knobs are. Normal volume knobs on strats get in my way and I have to move take out a tone and move the volum down to second spot, no biggie if I have to on this, but just curious if it is pretty much the same placement as a regaulr strat?

Secondly, mamyo wood. Tell me? Compare to alder? I love alder, never have bonded with any ash guitar, so what the heck is mamyo?

Mamywo is some sort of composite (Mylasian Mystery wood). It's got a darker sound than alder. I liked the tone of it when I used the humbucker (Landau) in the bridge, but I didn't really like it as much with the single coils. As long as you're not expecting it to sound like a vintage strat you'll probably like it. They are great guitars. I think if I ever get another one I would opt for an alder body. Just my 2 cents.

First Tyler, wanted one long before I got into the boutique thing.
I asked Tyler the specs and here's what they had on file for the serial#
Studio Elite Psychedelic Vomit – Mamywo body, standard Maple neck with Rosewood fingerboard, Sperzel locking tuners, Dunlop 6100s, 3 ply white pickguard with Duncan Classic Stacks and JBJr, Wilkinson VG300 bridge, chrome hardware, PV finish with cut arm.

So from my readings, looks liek this one should be a greta example fo what his guitars are all about. think it might be here Wed, so I'll report in.

The Duncan classic stacks sound great w/mamywo body!!
To my ear the mamywo sounds tighter like mahogany but more articulate,
not as dark. Excellent note separation when soloing.

The scalloped edges give the neck that broken-in feeling, like a vintage
guitar. The only other builder that I have experience with, that scallops
the edges is Wayne Charvel. Great necks, but geared more towards
shredders.

Had a Wayne, great, great guitar, but yep, shredder and I am no longer!
So it is more of a heavy roll or actual scallop? Not that it matters, but figure talking about it will keep the shakes away until it comes!

I had the Mamywo/rw combo on a studio elite. Forget the pickups though. It definitely was in the alder ball park tonally and attack-wise, but it was seriously punchy too (a really good punchy). I sold it, regretted it almost instantly, and spent a lot of money trying to get it back. Now I have one with an ash body at their shop for some neck work. Can't wait to get it back.

Best of luck with the new guitar, hope you enjoy it. I've enjoyed all the Tylers I've owned/played.

The Tyler is a scalloped edge, you can definately see it and of course

It's repair/warranty work. They're actually replacing the whole thing, which is a bonus b/c I can swith from a r/w fingerboard to an all maple neck (with no dots), which is what I really wanted to begin with (but Eddies gave me such a good price on this one I couldn't resist). I sent it to them b/c of a strange buzz that a local tech couldn't fix. Apparently there was something about the neck JT didn't like, so he asked if I minded if he replaced the neck. I was totally cool with that.

Hey Scott,

Mine is both and scallopped rolled edge . . . . so comfortable.
Also, if the knob placement is an issue, call James . . .they build me two custom pickguards.

Dank, cool, that layout for controls is exactly what I like ot use.
Usually on strats I have a dummy pot broken off so it looks right in the volume placement.
Any clue on how much them guards are?

Yup . . . I just paid $495 for the one in that picture . .but that's loaded with labor and shipping included. I have my old one (s/s/s) with that exact layout on the emporium right now.

Kind of a blessing in disguise! I'm a sucker for all maple necks w/o
dots too. I think the fingerboard looks 100x better w/o them.
