Labor Day sale at GC-I traded in the 1995 Taylor 710 for a Gibson Advanced Jumbo (copy of the pre-war model).I got a 'cannon' and I now know what the word means,Two tone sunburst,no grain on the spruce top and nicely figured rosewood on the sides and back.I am in the honeymoon phase, but man, this thing is great...'just like a ringin' a bell' and the top won't open up for at least a couple of years...

    Congrats

In my opinion, the AJ is the finest acoustic Gibson is making these days - a real bone crusher.

Gibson only made the AJ a few years in the 1930s (originals will run ya well over $30,000). I am guessing that although the new version has the same wide angle X bracing as the original, the braces are the taller and thinner Martin style rather than the slighly heavier ones Gibson used (this has been a typical feature of many Gibsons since the mid-1980s) which means the top will vibrate even more than the originals.

Again, play the heck out of her and enjoy!

    galo,come on over.

zw-i did some research when i got home, with the purchase.i think i believe the bracing is identical to the old ones(1936-1939),the guitar sounds large.i played several Martins, including the EC and Mayer sig models,D-18,D-28,Hummingbird,J-45).the sound from this one was so over the top good,i bought it without any of those even being in contention.i went back and had my sales guy change out what ever the stock strings were to the d'addario ej16's(my preferred acoustic strings),tried it,and bought it.

No grain on the spruce top?

Mine has figured top grain with lots of silking.

congrats on a great guitar purchase. Gibson is making lots of great instruments these days.

I've got an AJ too....like it a lot. Congrats. Enjoy it.

BTW...don't forget the earplugs when you play it loud!

I just got it back from my luthier who set it up.The neck is as straight as a gun-barrel.The sound is just stunning:loud, clear and resonant.Sorry about the pix part. It's getting rain/hurricanes here in south Florida, and I have had a 2 day window(off work and no joy). This guitar is great.
