UPDATED: Floyd Rose - two spring setup?

Hi all,

I've got a guitar equipped with a Floyd Rose bridge, and three springs. I'd like to decrease that to two springs. The Floyd lowers pitch only, = non-floating. The springs supplied with the guitar are too weak to keep the bridge flat when bending or doing double stops. I much prefer the looser feel of two springs. What type of spring would I need to be able to use a two spring setup? I use 9-42 strings.
Please advise, thanks!

PROMISED UPDATE 01/17/17: After ordering the Gotoh PSP springs and setting up the EVH Wolfgang USA, I did not care for the stiffer feel of the 2 PSP springs. I also have a Gotoh Floyd-equipped guitar and attempted the 2 stock springs setup on that guitar after watching the following video:

Success! You can use two stock springs with a Floyd Rose guitar, you just have to adjust the spring claw to account for the difference in tension. It is not that difficult, as the video shows, but you have to know what to do.

I also compared the stock Gotoh Floyd springs to the stock EVH Wolfgang USA Floyd springs, and other than a more polished looking Gotoh product, I could not discern any difference between the two in length, nor in gauge.

I subsequently set up my EVH Wolfgang USA with two stock springs without any difficulty. I now get the flutters I was looking for, the slinkier feel of the springs, whilst being able to do double stops without the trem wavering. I've had no tuning instabilities. It's all a matter of setting it up correctly. Just take your time!

i'm not sure if heavier springs are sold but maybe you could tighten the spring claw closer to the body and go with a lighter gauge of strings

I did tighten it, and already use 09-42. 3 springs is too tight, 2 springs is not enough...

i don't know ....all of mine have 3 springs and are awesome as they are

for the strings you're using it's going to take the same amount of tension regardless of the spring size
...so I would say just get used to the standard 3 springs

maybe go back to the 3 spring and loosen the claw? idk

EVH plays with 09-46 and has 2 springs. There's something in the setup I'm missing.

Aren't there various types of springs, some looser, some heavier duty? Ideally, I'd get the pull of 2 1/2 springs...

Exactly what I was thinking. Question is - where to get those springs. I understand the science regarding the tension. The tension is almost right with two springs, it's not like it's going out of tune. I'd like a couple of springs with a little more tension. Question is where to get those!

Blix to the rescue again! So you bought those and only used two of those springs, correct?

I have just the 2 stock springs + 9's on my Gotoh floyd, no issues and tension is perfect for those VH/RATM like flutters. I would try the Gotoh Springs.

so whats the advantage of going with 2 springs? ...anything other than the bar flutters mentioned by JP

Feel is a little slinkier which makes it easier to get those screaming flageolets. It's a subtle but noticeable difference.. I always wondered why my old RG550 had 'that' thing going on but my stock EVH Wolfgang didn't. It's a very subtle combination of bridge, spring tension and string gauge. Once I removed one of three springs on the EVH - there it was, 'that' feel that I was looking for. Of course, this introduced the issue with finding just the right springs. I'm just surprised at the lack of available official setup info on this! I mean people have been abusing whammy bars since 1982 at least?! Jeez!
