My turns for a UPS rant!

I had to buy a new piece of machinery recently. It was due to arrive today.

"Out for Delivery" posted on the UPS site. Whoohoo! right? riiight??

My UPS driver comes, and I go out to him and tell him that I assumed he had a large wooden crate for me today.
He looks at his pad, then at me, and says... it should be on my truck, but it isn't.

    Wha?:huh

I call UPS at about 1:30PM. I'm supposed to get a call buy 3PM. They don't call.
I call back at 5PM. They say... we'll call by 6:30.

    They don't call.

UPS people state they can't find the crate, according to the messages sent back by the depot. large. wooden. crate. A little smaller than a bathtub.

    whoaboy... where's my $10,000 package?:omg

It'll probably show up tomorrow. Are you new to this UPS stuff? Sometimes **** gets delayed and since half the country is in the middle of some serious weather, that might have something to do with it. And a large wooden crate a little smaller than a bathtub isn't going in a regular UPS truck. It'll be delivered by UPS LTL freight.

    That's kinda scary

I just shipped $50,000 worth of stuff for work with FedEx last month.

Everything got there ... and it got back safely as well when my coworkers finished the job out there

    But yipes!

    :omg

Give them to Tues. noon to catch up with themselves and find the crate, that's just the way they are. If they don't have their hands on it Tues. then talk to a UPS Supervisor from the outset, if that doesn't fix things talk to the Supervisor's Supervisor, and on up the management line until someone lays eyeballs on the crate and babysits it onto a delivery truck (and gives you the drivers cell phone #) for Wed. delivery.

Having said that, neveruse UPS for anything important or valuable. If they screw up they're (very) difficult to deal with, they damage too much stuff IME. Good luck.

I'm surprised UPS ground would ship something that large and valuable.

    Sure it wasn't UPS Freight?

They check in between the seats?

J/k, good luck; I'm sure it will be found.

When shipping expensive things trust a company like Rock-It Cargo...

There are much better choices than UPS or FedEx for specialized shipping.

OK, maybe 1/2 bathtub sized. Still, it's pretty big.

Shipper didn't say anything about it going via UPS Freight.
We tried with another carrier I've used before called DB Schenker, but they no longer do domestic delivery. I'll be having Schenker delivery a similar package from Romania soon, found a deal I couldn't pass up.

I'll be on the phone with United Parcel Smashers first thing in the morning, you can bet on it.

So many jokes about Wolfes package. Must resist. Aghhhhh!
Dude next time just have a real freight company ship it to me and we can watch Dave and Cubby load it up.

Go look on the wrong street at the wrong house number and the crate will be sitting on someone's front porch in the pouring rain. Happened to my $1,200 Top Hat amp.

The drivers don't know how to read anymore. :red

I called FedEx from NY asking where my overnight package was. They said it's stuck in Memphis due to the weather. Three hours later it was delivered. I guess sometimes tracking means nothing.

Once, between Christmas and New Years i had 12 laptops sent to me on two road cases. The regular driver was on vacation. The replacement delivers one road case and says that the other one will come later that day.

Well....it never came. We escalated this to the highest levels at UPS and in the end, we were left with a sorry, and empty hands.

The regular driver said he scoured the warehouse on his off time, hoping to come across our missing road case/skid.

    No such luck.

That sucks! I hope it shows up today.

I work on a receiving dock and see stuff like this happen all the time. Once, someone here was looking for a very expensive package that I supposedly signed for. After a few days it comes out that the package isn't even close to getting here yet. Somehow UPS showed me signing for it,,they said since you signed for stuff from that address before, they just used my name as a reference!! WHAT!?!?!?! I was tearing this place apart looking for it and the item was still over in Europe!

It's interesting how lying to the customer is just part of their process.

I've never had to call them, we had our trafficking dept give them a call. I suppose they know who to talk to. You probably have to call a main depot? not sure

    Did you ship with insurance?
Anything that big is going UPS Freight. If you were looking for it on the regular brown truck, it isn't going to be there.
