I would like to use a compressor to pull back the volume (clean up), boost compression, and add high end to my Marshall 1987 Plexi. Anyone try this? Essentially it would be like rolling the volume back, with a little eq and compression... in theory...

I usually set my compression on the light side, on my Marshall. Ratio 2:1, slow attack, fast release, set the compressor volume to ever-so-slightly boost the volume.
Add compression after that to taste as desired.
