I'm sure that we won't be pi**ing off the local authorities.

Make sure the person who picks you up at the airport is actually the van driver from the resort...

Wife and I went a while back. Dude comes up to us as soon as we gather up our bags, says he's there to meet us (like the resort said). We start walking thru the airport, following him.

Another dude comes running up and catches us just before we get to the exit doors and starts arguing with dude #1 in Spanish. He then informs us that, "We don't want to go with this guy.."

He says he is from the resort to pick us up, not dude #1..

Dude #2's van has the resort logo plastered all over it, so we go with. Once on the road I ask him, "Where was that other dude going to take us?"

He says, "Prolly out to the desert..."

I've been there. it's totally safe in the resorts, but if you leave you're taking your chances.

Either there or to take him to another timeshare deal.
The timeshare business I hear is very cutthroat.

We are supposed to be picked up at the airport so I'll be sure to get the ID of the driver that we are really supposed to take. Thanks for the heads up!

Great story! A big mistake is to think that police/one’s rights are the same in Mexico as the US.
