1. The Gear Page is run by musicians for musicians. We listen, we learn and if we misstep we are not afraid to do the right thing. We proposed some changes to the Emporiums. Based on feedback from members, we have decided to not go ahead with those changes. However, it has also highlighted that we need some community input into what is working and what is not working for members here. Primarily focused on the Emporiums, we'd like input on your thoughts about TGP and how things work in the Emporiums for you and how you'd improve them. The discussion thread on the is here!

Just watched this again for the first time in decades. Man, they were on point during the 5150 tour. Eddie may have been at his creative peak with playing synths just as well as he played guitar and incorporating the Steinberger trem in his guitar solos. And Eddie and Sammy actually liked each other, so much so that they were neighbors! The energy back then was infectious. And this coming from a David Lee Roth mark.

Huge fan here. That was the height of their Sammy-era powers.

    Summer Nights... damn.

Sammy with a wireless microphone in 1986. Were they among the first bands to use them? They were absolutely rolling in cash at that time and I don't remember anybody else using them back then.

Great set. Great production. Sam looks like a French poodle running around stage.

Yeah, they killed it on that one, didn't they? Eddie sure knows how to properly use the whammy bar.

I used to watch this a lot. I love it when he plays “316” at the beginning of his solo spot, it’s a beautiful composition and he plays it with such feeling.

One Way to Rock with Ed and Sammy trading solos is epic as well.

That is a great live band at the peak of their powers right there.

If someone wants to say EVH was the greatest electric guitarist who ever lived, they'll get no argument from me. He just made it look so dang easy.

Nah, by 1986 wireless was very common already.

The parachute pants I can get past, it’s Sam’s poodle haircut and bandanna around his neck that’s terrible. I want to throw him a frisbee.

I had 2 copies of this on VHS when it was broadcast on MTV...i think I watched this concert a million times back in 1986-7.
then lost the tapes in a move in the late 90s...bought it on DVD in early 00s.
i'm not a fan of the synth tunes, would it have killed them to put the MTV documentary that aired during the beginning of this tour on as a "behind the scenes view of the band"?...it just needs some extras....
from 86-95 I mostly listened to this era of the band....but after whatever happened in '95, I got tired of the drama a bit...and went back to listening to the material from 78-84...the 2 DLR songs on Greatest hits 1 are just awesome...too bad we didn't get a full album then....oh well.....

Yes. Back then I didn't listen to it "5150" because I kept rewinding "Love Walks In" because I had a crush on Marie. But when I became an adult and listened to that song finally, that riff is just phenomenal.

I have a pretty big live DVD collection, and this is easily one of my favourites and most watched. Burned it out twice on VHS and working on burning the DVD out, lol.
    Ed's solo is a masterpiece.

That riff is not exactly a piece of cake to play either, and Ed plays it perfectly while jumping around, running in place, yawn, no biggie.

Not much over-dubbing. Sounds great. Kind'of hard to watch knowing what they did to Mike during this period.
