Just picked up an Epi doubleneck and I really need to replace the crappy pickups but I don't want to invest big money in a niche instrument I am only using for a song or two. Any suggestions for 'bargain' classic PAF tone?

I bought a GFS Vintage 59 humbucker (bridge) and it matched quite well with an SD 59 in the neck. Far better than the SD JB that was in there!

    GFS is nice.

    Also, google rockfield pickups.

GFS are generally a Good upgrade from "crappy stockers".
You also could go used and get the highly disregarded Gibson 498/490 set on the cheap at usually $80 set or less as well as most DiMarzios and Duncans used go for between $30 - $50 a piece. CL has some real low $$$ gems if you look.

I love the Gibson 490/498 humbuckers. They are much harder to find nowadays since Gibby doesn't put them in every guitar anymore.

    x4 on GFS.

I have had maybe 10 or 12 different Duncans and only one GFS.

WHy? Because I didn't feel any desire to swap it out. It is flat-out perfect.

Seems like most agree that the GFS single coil pickups are a great value--the humbuckers don't seem to get the same love...

I would say GFS and Tonerider for the most affordable. The next step up without breaking the bank would be Bill and Becky (Wilde Pickups) and BG Pups ( Bryan Gunshar). Bill and Becky, as well as Bryan both make great pups at an almost unbelievable price.

    Toneriders are cheap enough.
