Very Bad Noise Coming From Amp Now - Voodoo Lab a good option?

I have a pretty big pedal board with a mix of stomp boxes, wahs, boosters, a DL4, a whammy, etc. I play a strat with a Fender tube amp.

I never used to have much of a buzz problem through the amp, but we moved to a new basement and the "noise" is unbelievable. When I click the distortion pedal, the noise is so bad I can't even hear my notes.

I'm assuming the power in the basement is "dirty" and I need to condition it. So, I looked at a couple of the different Voodoo Labs devices.

Does anyone have any experience with them? Will that solve my problem? And, do you recommend one over another for me?

PS: going direct into the amp just from my guitar sounds fine. I tried to isolate each pedal to see if one was grounded improperly, and I couldn't locate one main offender - not even the distortion pedal.

The VL might help, but it won't hurt for sure. If you're plugged into a bunch of different outlets or have pedals daisy-chained you create Ground Loops which can cause that buzzing.

Check out the MXR/CAE MC403 Power System. Imho, it's a much better, more versatile power supply. Looks cooler too....;)

Try adding one pedal at a time to the chain (power as well) and see what goes down.

Thanks all.

Jamesie, do you think the VL will be as good as the MXR? Now I'm not sure which to get. Strong recommendation from SixString.

Is your guitar shielded?

Try running the pedals on batteries to see if that makes the noise go away. Or add them one at a time to see if it's a specific pedal causing the problem. Try different outlets in the basement and house. Is there dimmers anywhere on the same circuit, or anything with a motor? A power conditioner can get rid of some noise, but not all.

for sure i think the vl is as good as the mxr - the MXR/CAE MC403 Power System is more for built in a rack (it´s large) and it has more outlets and that has nothing to do with quality, on the other hand for the price for one mxr you can get 2 vl units

i don´t own the mxr (i tried it only for a few hours and in the end it was to big and heavy for my needs) so i can not really talk about the quality from the unit
