I did a quick lesson on the very basics of playing Chet Atkins style alternate bass between students this morning.
I conceived it to help a specific student with preparation for "Mister Sandman," so two of the chords I use are from the "easiest" bars of that arrangement. The focus is on the thumpicked alternate bass and starting to get the index and middle plucking as well.

Hope some find this a helpful introduction to the style.

Notation and video are on my site.

You're welcome. I was thinking of this today, coincidentally....I happened to be teaching, "Death Don't Have No Mercy." It's similar enough. Once you get that quarter-note thumb going , skies the limit.

The recent fingerstyle blues thread got me thinking about Chet so I did a little searching and found this thread. Great stuff! Time to practice some more.
