I need to get an old strat refinished with a 1961 Sunburst. In 1961 Fender started using a more robust red dye for their three color sunburst. Also the dark brown part of the sunburst around the edge of the body is slightly more black, hence the sunburst finish on a 1961 Fender Strat is much bolder looking. MJT finishes say they can do it. Anyone have any experience with their sunbursts, and their 61' sunbursts?

Are you refinishing a vintage 1961 Strat? If so, I would check out Gord Miller - http://gmvintagerestorations.com/ . In my opinion, he is at the top of the list for high-end Fender refinishes. Here's how my 1963 Stratocaster turned out after Gord refinished and relic'ed it:

Yeah, Matt and Mark just made me (got it last week) a custom 3-tone burst body... Heavy yellow undercoat, thicker red band... "Target" burst. They nailed it.

I'm imagine Danocaster could do a heck of a job for you.

can't go wrong with MJT. I have been very impressed with every body and neck I got back from him. Excellent work!

    on a side note...

if this guitar is an original... does a refin effect the value +/- ?? or is it worth more with the original factory "naturally relic'd" finish?

how bad ..or what condition, is the original finish?

i would use a big name like Lays or Lentz as to effect the value as little as possible, not that the others are not great.
