Are there any price guides to vintage equipment that people would recommend (Electric guitars, amps, acoustic guitars, etc.)? Would be using more as a player looking at buying a vintage-ish guitar. Nothing high dollar like a '59 les paul or '61 strat but occasional mid 60s martin etc.

I know Vintage Guitar magazine puts one out but don't know if that's highly regarded or what.

while guides can be handy tools they often are off the mark. books have data that was compiled prior to publication so right there it can be out of date by the time you see it.

The Vintage Guitar Magazine is probably one of the better ones to have. They compile their data straight from dealers, so depite being possibly dated (as the previous poster mentioned), it is based on real world data, ie what has sold. I have a couple of friends who are vintage guitar/amp collectors, and they consult it regularly and hold it in high regard.

The relative numbers from one item to another are useful. But they are all aspirational... Think retail store used gear asking price. That and they only come out once a year... Prices can change quickly and seasonally, that won't be reflected.
