Just bought a RIVERA r30-112, and I love the tone - it surpassed my expectations - the pots are dirty, but eh, I can fix that - paid $550 for it, did I get a steal?

It came with Mullard El34s - are those decent - I've never been into the game of swapping tubes????

Also whats the recommendation on the speaker on this thing? I'm wondering if there is a punchy-er speaker I can put in it - it's that budget Celestion...

The upgrade from the GT55 celestion, would be the GT85. A lot of people like the Vintage 30 in these. I for one. The tubes are most likely Reissue Mullards? These are fine, Rivera recomends the Svet winged C's, and chinese 12ax7's.

I scored one of those several weeks back, great amps but it took a couple weeks to dial in. The right tubes will make a big difference in them as well.

The Rivera R-30 has been one of my main amps since the year they came out. Maybe '95? Mine originally shipped with Siemens tubes which I think are the perfect tube for this amp. They bring out the best in the medium to medium high gain range of Channel One. I don't think Rivera has these tubes anymore, but you still get them, sometimes they're branded RFT but they're the same tube. Otherwise Svetlanas are good too.
