Vocal Melodies with a Slide

I am trying to get away from the standard Duane/Elmore blues slide, and into the more vocal side. In terms of Sacred Steel, Derek Trucks type lines, what scales are you using? I am thinking major scales would be the starting point, adding and dropping as needed. Anyone working on this too?

Hello, you may want to start with both major and minor pentatonic (which it seems you know already), then add a note or two depending on the situation or sound you desire.

Here are some useful places in typical popular music.

Major pent - add the 4 (ii IV bVII) and the 7 (iii V), or the b7 (bVII)

Min pent - add 2, and either b6 for an Aolian sound (iv), or 6 for dorian sounds (IV)
